I know that this is a stupid question but can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to get my DSL to have a GUI (graphical user interface) Nathan Neil < http://www.nathanscomputercenter.iwarp.com > Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Aug. 31 2005,00:53
You should be getting Fluxbox (the GUI) by default when DSL is started. Can you give us some more info on your system? (cpu, ram, video card, etc) Are any error messages displayed? -J.P. Posted by nathanscc on Aug. 31 2005,00:57
My system is 248ram23 GB hard drive cd-rom cd-rw pentium 4 i just get a text based OS (kinda like freeBSD before you install KDE) i just think i need a line of code to start the GUI Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Aug. 31 2005,01:11
Type "startx" and see what happens.Linux is a derivative of Unix, and BSD is Unix. So it should feel very familiar. ^_^ Also, what video card do you have? Motherboard? If it's a OEM box (like Dell or HP) give us at least the model name. Have you tried framebuffer mode? If not, type "fb800x600" at the Boot: prompt. Without the quotes, of course. -J.P. Try typing in:dsl xsetup at the first boot prompt. Then try some of the various xvesa server graphics resolutions. Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Sep. 03 2005,02:26

HiYou might consider that you have a bad or incompatible CD or it was created from a bad image. I once had a batch of CD's that created similar problems. In some cases I could get them to boot if I used the toram option. It seems the start/stop operation of normal reads caused errors. good luck |
