Double Click in DSL1.5Forum: Other Help Topics Topic: Double Click in DSL1.5 started by: Your Fuzzy God Posted by Your Fuzzy God on Sep. 07 2005,18:20
I just installed DSL1.5 and am having a great time with it but I have to change xtdesk back to double click. This single clicking on the icons is driving me nuts. I have looked around for a config file, but to no avail.Any help on this would be much appreciated. Posted by Your Fuzzy God on Sep. 08 2005,22:58
-?----EDIT---- Oops, darn me and my slippery replies. Seriously though, if anyone knows how to change this please let me know. Posted by mikshaw on Sep. 09 2005,00:03
I'd say it'd be set in $HOME/.xtdeskrcExample file: table Config #FontName: 9x15 FontName: -misc-fixed-bold-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-90-iso10646-1 FontColor: #d0d0d0 ShadowColor: #505050 ClickInterval: 500 IconWidth: 64 IconHeight: 64 Fixed: true CaptionBackground: no CaptionBorder: yes end Can't say from experience, but that's the only setting that seems to have anything to do with a double click Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Sep. 09 2005,00:41
Nope. Sorry. The single-click icons were hard-coded into XTdesktop. It's not switchable. Once you get used to it, two-click icons seem clunky. What's the extra click for? -J.P. Posted by mikshaw on Sep. 09 2005,01:33
To prevent accidental click. There have been several times I'll click the edge of a window to scroll or shade and miss, clicking the desktop instead. The single click thing isn't an issue for me at all, though...i don't use icons =o) Posted by meestermole on Oct. 18 2005,02:23
also, for folks who like the icons - seems i cant move them around, because a click will only open the app.

With all the flexibility and config settings of Fluxbox the single-click had to be "hard coded".... Wow !?!?. I'll admit I don't know much about XTdesktop and the window manager but that seems harsh. Shades of M$ and Uncle Bill knowing what's best for you.... I've grown use to the single-click icons but I would rather have them as double-click (maybe a topic for the Poll-of-the-month!). I go back and forth between windows systems and dsl and it's just a small annoyance that I thought would be easy to fix. Posted by mikshaw on Nov. 03 2005,00:44
Xtdesk and fluxbox are entirely unrelated.I've been looking through the very tiny amount of documentation, and can't find anything about this, so i assume that it is something that requires editing the xtdesk source code to change. Regardless of whether or not this can be done with config files, it's a whole world different than "shades of M$"...at least you can recompile the application to make it do what you want. dsl 2.0 brings double-click icons back. It's a shame since I'm now used to single click. Anyway to switch between the two??

Yes, use the icontool in DSL2.1 RC1

There are quite a bit of behind the scenes changes with 2.1.With v2.0 of dsl, I wrote C++ code to make single or double click configurable via xtdeskrc, ClickInterval. I did this with my icontool in mind. But while writing the icontool and desiring a draggable via double click, I came to find out that dragging had changed considerably in xtdesk. So, in 2.1 I revisited the C++ code and wrote a function to enable dragging to be the default when ClickInterval drives double clicking. Just another reason to switch to 2.1. |
