It would be very helpful if you would post more than a question mark. "kill the dock" could have many meanings, and you're wasting our time expecting us to know what you mean....somebody posts a possible answer, then you say "no...i mean this..", so they have to post again...blah, blah....Dockapps in 1.5 are loaded directly from .xinitrc In 1.4 and earlier they are started from /usr/bin/enhance, which is started from .xinitrc. ALLOW ME TO WASTE MORE OF EVERYONE'S TIME...I am referring to the dock in the lower right hand corner of the screen with the various little apps. Is this not called the dock? I would like to know how to kill this entire application if that is possible. I tried killall dock from the terminal which obviously does not work. Posted by mikshaw on Sep. 27 2005,14:24
In DSL 1.4 and earlier, remove "enhance" from /home/dsl/.xinitrc.In DSL 1.5, remove the dockapps from .xinitrc. The docakpps are everything within the "if" command except xtdeskRestart.sh The slit (dock) will still be available, but you won't see it if no dock apps are loaded. If you are already in X (which is probably the case), exit the window manager after editing .xinitrc (Window Manager -> Exit, or CTRL+Alt+Backspace) and then type "startx" to restart it without the dockapps. Fartbarker, please try to give a little more info when you ask questions. It helps us to understand your problem.Even though you gave no info, mikshaw was very kind and answered your question.
So if you are using >=1.4, edit (as root) /usr/bin/enhance to remove the apps you don't want started in the dock, or if you are using >=1.5, edit /home/dsl/.xinitrc and remove the apps you don't want to start. And take it easy with the hostility, please. -J.P. Posted by fartbarker on Sep. 27 2005,23:24
Thanks. The dock is dead.
