I would like to do some gtk programming and be able to compile gtk source.  I have downloaded the gtk1.2.10 source (link from the gtk.org getting started tutorial) but can't get it to compile.  I assume I need to compile the libraries for gtk in DSL so that they can be linked in when gtk programs are compiled.

I know others are building gtk apps so I was wondering if anyone has info about the process spedifics about DSL.

All of my compiling is done in Suse9, since it uses a compatable c lib, and comes with a lot of development tools installed.  I haven't done anything that requires kernel headers, though, so this might not be an option for you.

You might be able to get the gtk1.2 dev files into DSL by using debian packages, but i can't say for sure.

Thanks for the reply.  Didn't see anything on Synaptic about gtk1.2.  Would like to be able to program both gtk1.2 and gtk2 (the gtk.org site says this is possible as of 1.2.10).  Would also like to be able to devel for DSL within DSL.  Successfully compiled ogg vorbis libraries and ogg vorbis tools.  Will keep looking.
