Some observations on using backup/restore... (DSLpanel - fluxbox systemIn the apps section on the board... I mentioned that I could not save my settings - the machine would just sit there and... That was with DSL... 2.0.1 seemed to be the fix (running live cd) Some notes on what it doesn't save: external downloads - in my case this was open office 2.0 - .uci - saving that to my HD - and clicking on it after I have booted - brings it right back to the desktop - and in the fluxbox menu... sometimes the wallpaper isn't saved - nor a device mount (in my case hda3 - I suppose the mtab could be moved - maybe) Firefox settings WERE saved (installed extensions) and recent docs in Beaver, settings in emelfm.. ------- I'm fairly new to Linux... I've 'test drove' Mepis, Ubuntu, Knoppix, RedHat.. Gentoo... and I keep returning to DSL... ------- TM Posted by roberts on Nov. 20 2005,17:58
External applications would be a huge waste of time to include in the backup/restore tar ball. We use a partition and with optional directories on such. Explained in the Gettting Started doc. There is also explains the .filetoool.lst and .xfiletool.lst which do control the contents of such backup.
