Hi all! I just downloaded the DSL-2.0 and burned it onto my CD-RW in order to later install it on my pen drive.

But the problem is that after starting up the desktop the mouse isn't responding. Although during startup DSL has detected a generic mouse on /dev/psaux, the cursor doesn't move and the buttons don't seem to work either.

Now what's the problem? I can't even start up a terminal (or is there a keyboard shortcut?) and the first (and only) virtual console is reserved for system messages.

Can anyone help?

Sometimes I need to move my mouse around for a few seconds before it will come alive.

Otherwise, you can try pressing CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE to exit XWindows and then type

xsetup.sh

and then set up your graphics and mouse.

Then type

startx

to go back into Xwindows and try again.

Otherwise, you may need to get XFree86.dsl if you have an unsupported mouse device.

Did this already (2x):

I haven't the first clue how to do this (I'll bet Misza would like this explained in greater detail also):

I tried entering the following at the command line (to no avail):

apt-get install xfree86 (oops, no apt in DSL)

mydsl-load xfree86.dsl (says "Please mount media containing optional directory and try again.")

This PC's mouse device is a 2-button serial mouse on com1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a serial mouse you need to boot dsl with the xsetup boot option:

dsl xsetup

Then you will be prompted for where, which com port, your serial mouse is located.

This serial mouse is extremely frustrating.

I already did that (as previously posted) by dropping to the shell via ctrl-alt-bkspc, type xsetup.sh at the prompt, go through motions, then type startx when back at prompt.
