How do I install the hplip driver for the HP PSC 1600. This is one of the newer all-in-one printers.

I have cups running (via MyDSL) but it has so few of the drivers.

It is not listed in whatever repository Synaptic points to. I fI can't get one of these new printers to print and scan for me, DSL is a non-starter... which will be too bad because it runs like fire on old, cheap $150 laptop (IBM 600e TP)... the kind I like to travel with... lose it (or have it taken) and not that big a deal

I hope someone can help. The places I go all have thse new all-in-ones for me to plug into.

Try editing the /etc/apt/sources.list file as user "root" (Superuser)

Change the word "oldstable" to something newer like

"stable"

or better yet

"testing"

and then do an UPDATE (not UPGRADE) to refresh the available packages.

OK, I'll try this. I'm an old hand with apt-get. I thought DSL was built on 'testing'. Obviously not.

This must be why several things I tried to install would not.
