Posted by Juanito on Aug. 27 2007,06:22There is an hplip extension posted in testing that you could try - it works for HP OfficeJet G85 and OfficeJet K80 all-in-one printers, both via cups and by using hp- commands from a terminal window.
Posted by kuky on Sep. 15 2007,21:35thanks juanito by your atention..
i begin to set up a printer hp designjet 3745 usb port but
in the point 11(of info file hplip.tar.gz), test printing , there is a mesage error of type "/opt/hplip/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip" below the name of the printer in the cups web page, a few seconds after the icon of the printer is green and ok...
the printer before works ok during the month of free license of cups comercial program...
Posted by Juanito on Sep. 16 2007,03:58If you enter the following in a terminal window, is your printer seen?
I saw a few foomatic errors when I forgot to copy sigtrap.pm to usr/lib/perl/5.8.0.
The other thing you could try is to set the log level to debug in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, "sudo /opt/hplip/etc/init.d/cups restart" and have a look at /var/log/cups/error_log for lines that start with "E ["
Edit: As per the < supported devices list > it looks like Designjets are not supported by hplip. The cups part of the extension might work though...
Posted by kuky on Sep. 17 2007,09:33sorry is deskjet 3745 with comercial cups works with the ppd driver?? 3740 ...
the juanito cups find two printers
1 deskjet 3745 etc usb etc
2 desjet 3745 "long uri"
i make the next point with ppd of desjet 3740
and in both cases 1 and 2 the printers is loaded by cups i can see preview page ,configure page etc but when i print, the icon of printer goes of green to yelow and done below the error mesage :
the bash command to test is too much for me..
i will send a new license to comercial cups to observe files and config...
question hplip is a cups program ?
Posted by Juanito on Sep. 17 2007,11:13OK, so the deskjet 3740 is supported by hplip. If you want to use hplip with cups you need to use the long uri and the ppd included with the hplip_ppd.tar.gz extension.
-what happens when you open a terminal window and enter "hp-testpage -d[long uri]"
- about the only way to find what causes this problem is to set the log level in cupsd.conf to "debug" and look at the error log. It's really not that difficult...
- no, hplip and cups are separate programs, but hplip uses the "hp" and "hpfax" backends with cups in order to print and fax.
Posted by kuky on Sep. 23 2007,17:55i will test in other hp printer... the deskjet 3745 no success ...by my knowledge...
Posted by Juanito on Sep. 23 2007,18:00If you could try a few of the things I suggested above and post the results here, I could help more...
Posted by kuky on Oct. 07 2007,16:12i test with a all in one hp fx380 with no succes...
the problem is the same .... a foomatic-rip error mesage
was the problem in to catch the same ppd file ...or a fx300 family is enough?
Posted by Juanito on Oct. 07 2007,18:14Did you follow the instructions in the hplip info file? If so, were there any error messages?
Could you edit cupsd.conf, change "LogLevel" to "Debug", restart cups and then look in /var/cups/error_log for errors?
