I tried using apsfilter from the dsl panel to setup my printer, but my printer model is not on the drivers list...and I can't see a generic one either...There's a post in here about gs...but I don't know how to use that... Any help please? Posted by berhurt on May 10 2007,04:44
Sorry, have I violated some sort of netiquette that's causing people not to reply? If so I am deeply sorry and could you please help me!!!

I've never managed to be able to print from DSL/DSL-N either - though I didn't try too hard so far.You could try the following: < http://hplip.sourceforge.net/ > or < http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages#search_packages > and look for "hpijs" Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on May 10 2007,06:46
I've used CUPS with hpijs for a HP printer... seems like that should be the best solution.

Thanks, thanks and thanks!I'm in the process of fiddling with CUPS now...hopefully this works out... As for HPLIP, I found that on the web, but I dunno how I can use the .deb file to set it up...I remember there's a way to do it...but I don't remember what it is! See < http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki....ibility >You can use `dpkg -i file.deb` if you aren't familiar with apt. Posted by berhurt on May 11 2007,04:48
Right, I got it all wrong... it's a .run file which I used with the "sh" command...but then it dies saying "command not found:python". So I went and did apt-get -f install, apt-get update, got the python dsl extension and tried again...still came up the same...any ideas? With CUPS, how do I use it to set up the printer? There's stuff in the admin like name, location etc...I've no idea how to fill these out... Posted by berhurt on May 11 2007,04:51
oh yeah, the HPLIP set-up instructions page says that it handles scanning too...does that mean just printers with scanners built in...or separate scanners too? *crosses-fingers*

It's probably easier to use the .deb or manually install the it than to fiddle around with python....Check a doc/guide, I'm pretty sure any would do. This < http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/combined.html > seems to say it doesn't support it. Posted by berhurt on May 14 2007,01:17
oh well, I guess it was referring to HP's all-in-one printer/scanner thingies...
