How to print

I have used apsfilter and have now managed to install a CanonBJC265SP on my DSL installation.
I can actually send a test print to the printer, but how do I send a page from an application - say a page I have created in Beaver?
When I go to print in Beaver, all I see is a Generic Printer, which doesn't do the job.
Have I missed something?

It was the export PRINTER= command that I didn't know about.
