I tried to setup my printer with no success. I have a laserjet 4L. I have made communications with the printer through the setup program by printing a test page that didn't come out properly and that was hundreds of pages long! I need some help please :)

I think we NMI before someone can help.
What choices were made during the setup?
Is this a PCL printer or postscript? How connected?
More info will be very helpful for someone to help you.

FYI,

A Laserjet 4L is a PCL printer that is compatible with LJ/LJ3/LJ4 commands.

Thanks :) I have succesfuly setup the printer and printed out a test page but now I can't get it to seem to actually print from programs. I tried reloading it but no luck. I have been using Ted to try to get it to print. It has these options:

Print to file
Fax [disabled]
Make
Make
Make
Printer
Printer
Printer
And
And
And

I tried them all, none of them work. It might just be Ted so I'll try to use another program.

Thank you for the help so far! (I actually found the exact driver for the pinter btw :) )

Ahhh you may have done the same thing I did after using apsfilter the first time......

Printing the test page is not the end of setup. You have to give your printer a name. I am wanting to say it is the option "I" on the setup screen. After you do that, you are ready to go. Go to the control panel and make sure that the printer daemon has been started. If it has, you should now see your printer in Ted and be able to print.

I did that already, though I looked in the control panel and the printer daemon isn't activated. I activated but I can't test it becuase Ted crashes when I try to started!

...
Tried it with OpenOffice... IT WORKS :D

Thank you

Why isn't the printer daemon started on boot? Maybe this could be modified in the next release?

Press the "F2" key for help.

There is a boot command that can be used to automatically start up the lpd (printer) spooler.

Thanks but I have an HD Install :)

Btw, this is my 50th post :) A very small step but I think worth noting. I just want to make a quick thanks to all of myDSL friends (*smirks* Pun intended). DSL is great and I'm very happy that I have this outlet to assist in the development of this great distro.

Thanks,

The same boot commands are also valid for an hd install. You just need to edit your lilo configuration file and then re-run lilo.
