HP OJ 350 = no listings in apsfilterForum: Printers Topic: HP OJ 350 = no listings in apsfilter started by: howard L Posted by howard L on May 29 2005,15:33
Hi. I'm relatively new to linux (3 months playing w/ old RH7) and brand new (2days) to DSL. I am trying to get my hpoj 350 to print using the apsfilter utility. There are no listings for the 350 in the drivers. I have been trying others but with no luck. Closest selection - hp oj 660 - has a driver but test comes up like this -'Printing test page' phase - seems to go through ok 'OK to print' phase ' - starts with lines - sh: line 1: hpijs: command not found GNU Ghostscript 7.05: Can't start ijs server "hpijs" **** Unable to open the initial device, quitting. tTrying deskjet drivers get a lot of this - 'your gs version doesn't have driver "hpdj" compiled in. Select another or build a new gs version w/ complete or customized driver support.' What selections should I try? or what should I do. Printer works fine in RH7, < http://linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-OfficeJet_350 > has this posted - HP OfficeJet 350 BW inkjet printer, max. 600x300 dpi, works Mostly Recommended driver: hpijs Posted by ke4nt1 on May 29 2005,15:45
Most HP printers are gimp-print compatible..Try the steps in clivesay's printer-how-to.pdf, and see if that works for you.. < http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub....wto.pdf > 73 ke4nt Posted by howard L on May 31 2005,02:24
Well, I'm getting somewhere. I followed the steps in < http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub....wto.pdf > I did get a driver selection to work : apsfilter; #4-gimp stp driver; #91 hpdeskjet 500 works , slow apsfilter; #5-gimp ijs drivers did not work because they were not present in distro (as the others I've tried) The printing of the test page was VERY slow. I thought it might be because it was the test page but after working through the instructions and printing from the "Beaver" editor (successfully, yeah) I find that it is still VERY slow. I have set : quality - medium color - mono resolution - 300x300 default print method - auto Next is trying different drivers, and/or settings (duh) Are there other drivers available online that can be used? Any quick suggestions to save pain? Hey, At least it makes noise! Right? Thanks , Howard Posted by howard L on May 31 2005,22:35
I have had a little more success in other drivers in apsfilter.opt#4/93 [stp/pcl-520] in med quality 300x300 printed test page in 4:20 (drag) tried other modes , quality seems to be the time burner. Best time low quality gray 300X300 1:10 for that driver. Tried some other drivers. Checked in ghostscript (3) and found this opt #3/135 - dj500 [djet500] , med full 300x300 1:10 A 3/4 page of text out of beaver took :30 . It works but it's still slow ? I still wonder about a better driver, any suggestions? This edit added 6/3/05 - After messing widit I find its about the same as printing in '98. Page of text 30sec +- It works, I'll work it. |
