Hi.
I am testing DSL 1.2 Live CD I downloaded recently. I tried to install my old HP4L printer (which works fine with XP). In the DSL control panel I selected and went through "Printer setup" without difficulty. My printer was found as "gimp/pcl-4l" and I had no error report during the process.

But printing a test page failed. I had the following report:

'Creating test page:
sh: line1: ijsgimpprint: command not found
GNU Ghostscript 7.05: can't start ijs server "ijsgimmprint"
*** unable to open the initial device quitting.'

In the console "dmesg" says:

parport0: PC style at 0x378 (0x778)  [PCSPP, TRISTATE, EPP]
parport0: irq 7 detected
parport: legacy device
lp0: using partport0 (polling)
lp0: console ready

I have no idea, what could be the problem ? As I understand DSL sees my printer. But why it does not print a test page ?
Any ideas ? Thanks

Peteris

FYI,

This may or may not help but there have been reports that sometimes a printer will get set up and it works OK even though the "print test page" part does fail.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the ideas from cbagger01 and clivesay,

I further tested options in apsfilter and at the end I found a working option in group 3 (ljet4l), test page printing "inclusive".

One problem solved, but new ones arised. I'll be back soon with new posts in other sections.

I'm glad that option worked for you. I had my fingers crossed....
