I have installed the latest version of dsl on my old Dell laptop and have everything working except printing. Before I give up on apsfilter and go to cups, I thought I would post and see if there were others who successfully set up a network usb printer. My printer is a Epson 880 that is attached to a Linksys wireless print server. I tried selecting network as the interface and putting in the IP, which in this case is 192.168.0.100 but no test print happens.
I would appreciate any info from anyone who has setup a network printer with apsfilter. Thanks!

Is the "Network Printer" shared via the standard TCP/IP printer sharing, or does it use Microsoft Windows Network Printer sharing?

If it uses Windows Network sharing, you will need to install the samba.dsl extension and use it to connect to the printer.  I believe that CUPS and SAMBA can be made to work together.

No it is not a Windows network printer, the print server is not associated with any microsoft anything. I have 2 linux boxes and 3 mac boxes that all can access the printer which is not connected to a computer but to the wireless print server... so can apsfilter deal with a network printer? Thanks!

Good question.

Sorry, I can't help you with this one.

However, apsfilter is a standard linux print tool and is not just part of only DSL so you may be able to get additional help by googling for apsfilter information.

Also, if you can learn some generic network printer knowledge (commandline, not cups), you may be able to apply that knowledge and just use apsfilter for the printer driver setup portion instead of the entire printer setup process.

Ok, I have stopped fiddling around with asfilter and installed cups...I configured it from the a browser interface, did a test print, that worked but now I am opening up a text app.(flwriter) to test and I don't know what to put in the  "Print command" dialog box? Thanks

Also: how do I remove apsfilter? I know it's installed but when I do a search for installed packages it doesn't show up in the list? Again Thanks!
