I am sorry I am not getting it. I am trying  to get an app to d/l and save the app so that it is on my "desktop" each time I reboot. I am running DSL 2.0 on my USB 256 thumb drive. With 2 partitions SDA1 and SDA2 - Here is what I have been able to get so far:
1) Go to the DSL Download Extention Panel (DEP) and choose the app - lets say Open Office 1.1.4
2) then the DEP prompts you to select a folder - the default is /tmp but I know I should change this to some other directory but what? and on which partition?
3) Then I should somehow alter the settings so that DSL reboots with the app - but I am unsure of what to do.

Just copy the package to the root of your DSL partition...I assume it's sda1.  It will probably also show up as /cdrom.  You'll most likely need to copy it as root.

If this doesn't work for some reason, try adding "mydsl=sda1" to your boot options.

this is what I get in emelfm when I try to do copy
Quote
cp: cannot create regular file 'ramdisk/var/tmp..root". bash_profile': Permission denied
cp: cannot create regular file 'cdrom/<app name>.tar,gz': Permission denied

I don't know what the first error means...it seems to be unrelated.

The second error is the result of either not copying it as root, or not having a writeable DSL partition.  If it's the first, either use "emelfm as super user" or use the command "sudo  cp  /path/to/file.tar.gz  /cdrom/".  If it's the second, try adding "frugal" to your boot options to make the sda1 partition remount read/write when you boot.

Just in case you haven't discovered it yet, you can use emelfm as super user by right clicking on the desktop icon. In order to copy from one partition to the other you need to have both partitions mounted.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but how do you get to the Download Extension Panel?

first off thanks to mikshaw & doobit for their help _ it was the su & left click that I was missing.
As to the Download Extention Panel = DEP = MyDSL Icon = left click on desktop  -->APPS  --> Tools--> MyDSL Extention Browser
