Folks. Either I am being dimmer than a 10Watt light bulb or tcc has vanished from 2.1.

Used to be in /usr/bin as I recall and now its gone.

Any pointers appreciated (no pun intended)

I can't find tcc anywhere on my system as well.
Is it not on the live CD?

It was recently removed (2.0? 2.1?). With any additional software or additional size to existing software, something else must go to retain a 50mb distribution.

There is a gcc1.dsl myDSL package available in the repository.

Yes, agreed - stick with gcc. Its very portable.

I don't much care for the idea of trying to get gcc to load for a live cd. It looks like it does not work unless one also loads a bunch of other stuff as well. It seems overly complex for the basic goals of dsl.

I'm a casual C programmer. tcc would have been just fine. Also the web site claims it's there. My first disappointment with dsl...

I too liked using tcc on my previous version- 1.3

If it doesn't fit in the standard distro, can you please make it available as a MyDSL plug-in? Please?

I have been using tcc already! I downloaded a DSL 2.0 iso and cut it to cd. It boots just fine and only a little odd from the 2.2 ver I am used to.

But thanks anyway, this will be better (I don't have to reboot to do some C).

I'm a C programmer myself but I would think that if you want to code something up beyond what perl provides you might as well get gcc any way :/

I think the biggest advantages of TCC are

small size

and

ability to write interpretive "C" scripts, just like bash scripts or perl scripts.

This is particularly handy when you are trying to make a simple, small sized but open source program.

In this case, the program IS the source code, so no need to distribute it as an additional download.

But I'm not a C programmer so it doesn't affect me directly.

Yes, I think I will, however, I don't have a linux box set up right now, and booting DSL is just a quick way to do it. BTW, I instead downloaded a copy of Borland C++ Builder 5.5 command line compiler for MS Win2k, and that fills the bill for now.
