You'll probably need to rely on someone in the community to always make an updated FF extension or do it yourself. The version in DSL is usually painstakingly hacked by John to make it fit into the base. There's alot of work involved that I don't think he wants to repeat everytime FF is updated

Right-Click on an empty part of the desktop. The new firefox should be inside the "MyDSL" sub-menu. The old firefox version is still there. It is not removed from the system. Posted by searayman on Mar. 15 2006,22:46
thanks i found it but when i click it, it dosent open.

Hmm..There was no help in the *.info file, but maybe it needs the GTK2 extension to be installed and then activated from the menu? < http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub....705.dsl > Posted by Winter Knight on June 04 2006,22:40
I already tried that. If gtk2-0705.dsl and firefox-1.5uci are loaded, then when you try to run firefox 1.5, you get a whole bunch of errors. That is in DSL. It works fine in DSL-n though. There is probably another library(s) that is required. I loaded libc6.dsl, and got fewer errors when running firefox. Maybe I'm on the right track?

Have you tried just down loading from the firefox site, untar it and put the firefox folder in /usr/local?(i usally delete the old firefox, but you can just rename it to firefox.old just in case it don't work.). I don't get no errors, see pic->< http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/6941/17ww.png > Posted by I went to bed very late on June 06 2006,18:27
It works on dsl 0.9.2Made a link on the desktop to the directory of the new firefox version (it's hd-install) Posted by dtf on June 06 2006,21:50
This is what I get when trying to update to firefox-1.5 in 2.4. I have the dependent packages loaded on my system.dsl@Eliza:~/.fluxbox$ /opt/firefox-1.5/firefox (firefox-bin:4733): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: Cannot open pixbuf loader module file '/etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loaders': No such file or directory (firefox-bin:4733): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: Cannot open pixbuf loader module file '/etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loaders': No such file or directory (firefox-bin:4733): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: Cannot open pixbuf loader module file '/etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loaders': No such file or directory (firefox-bin:4733): Pango-WARNING **: No builtin or dynamically loaded modules were found. Pango will not work correctly. This probably means there was an error in the creation of: '/etc/pango/pango.modules' You may be able to recreate this file by running pango-querymodules. (firefox-bin:4733): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed (firefox-bin:4733): Pango-CRITICAL **: _pango_engine_shape_shape: assertion `PANGO_IS_FONT (font)' failed Pango-ERROR **: file shape.c: line 75 (pango_shape): assertion failed: (glyphs->num_glyphs > 0) aborting... /opt/firefox-1.5/run-mozilla.sh: line 424: 4733 Aborted "$prog" ${1+"$@"} dsl@Eliza:~/.fluxbox$ Posted by roberts on June 06 2006,22:07
The standard firefox 1.5 download requires gtk2 which is not part of dsl.I would suggest you use the extensions that provide such capabilites. Posted by dtf on June 06 2006,23:58
Maybe I am missing something but I thought that gtk2-0705.dsl provides me with that functionality and I have that loaded. dsl@Eliza:/mnt/hdc3$ tar -ztvf gtk2-0705.dsl | grep gdk-pixbuf.loaders does not return anything. Maybe I misunderstand what I need loaded or am not correctly installing it. Posted by kerry on June 07 2006,00:59
Man i can't beleave you still ain't got it.Lets go step by step-> 1. click on myDSL browser icon > click on Gtk2 > click on gtk2-0705.dsl.info > click download. 2. right click the desktop > MyDSL > Update_to_GTK2 3. got to frefox site and download firefox-> < http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ > 4. open emelfm highlight the firefox.tgz > right click > actions > unpack You should now have the firefox folder(lets test it) click on it to go inside you should see a executable named " firefox " click on it. firefox should load. 5. that's move it to the right place. use emelfm super user(right click the icon) on the left side should be your new firefox folder on the right you want to go to /usr/local you should see a firefox folder there click on it and in the middle select rename, change it to firefox.old. now click on your new firefox and select move you shold see the little clock while it's moving then you should see the new firefox folder above the old one. 6. that's it done just use the regulaer firefox icon to launch. Enjoy Posted by dtf on June 07 2006,01:40
I missed the step 2
Sorry if that was so obvious to everyone else but I did not see where that was documented. You would think it be in the info file. Got it. Posted by kerry on June 07 2006,01:45
