What happened to flwriter? It sure looks better than ted from what I see of screenshots.

Looks aren't really too important when you're going for "damn small" =o)
As I understand it, flwriter had some very annoying bugs that made using it a pain for many people.  That's all I know.

Huh, well Ted sux bigtime. Has almost no functionality as a real word processor. And abiword is way too big and slow for my 486 laptop with only 20mg ram.
Any suggestions for workable small word processor? Or maybe I'll try installing the fltk libraries and run flwriter with that.

Flwriter is fine if you are on an island with only other Flwriter users.
Just kidding...
Flwriter was not compatible with much. We tried to find an XHTLM to RTF. That would have saved Flwriter. It was the RTF that made for the Ted choice.

Can openoffice read the flwriter files? Or can't they be just saved as txt? That's all I care about -- I only use the 486 laptop as a writing tool to output text which then goes to openoffice on a desktop for final editing.

It would be wonderful if Flwriter could support the ODF.
I would think that would be a very worthy target. But then, at what size? There is not alot of incentive for those of us who appreciate the "small is beautiful". I keep hoping that there will be more new development in the small footprint arena. Bloat everywhere.
And still we have the monolopy to contend with. And their dictates of so called standards. RTF was the closest we could get with our small size.

It doesn't have to, all any word processor was to do is save to text. Save, as formated, to text. And OO picks right up on the txt formatting and there it is.
I could write in vi or emacs, have done so many times. It would just be a bit nicer if there was something as lite that did simple wp stuff, like "center text", or change font size. Quckly, I mean, not like ted's glacial (on my 486) fontool or other format tool stuff.
What about a lite little wp that just saved in xml?

TED is the best thing that is known here at the moment, for the sake of RTF & small size

For older computers, you might want to install the Siag Office editor, "Pathetic Writer" and give it a try.

It should be friendlier for older computers, although some users have experienced crashes on their systems.
