I have no idea what is causing this, but my apps close on their own, sometimes when I am in the middle of something. I am typing this fast in a Dillo browser, cuz it could close out on my at any moment (Dillo is a big offender on this count). I am only using one app at a time and the length of time varies before the disappearing act happens. Anybody know what is happening? And, more importantly, how I can fix it?

Try doing this.

Open a terminal window and start dillo by typing:

dillo

Any error messages or warning messages will then appear in the original terminal window while you are using dillo

if dillo suddenly disappears, look in the terminal window to read the last few messages.

How much RAM do you have and what does your RAM usage look like in status information on your desktop?

Thanks for the response. I will give it a try. I am running DSL on an old laptop -- p166 with 32mb ram. The ram could indeed be the problem. Although, with Dillo, I am never over 36% total ram usage.

After I wrote my original message, I reinstalled DSL on my system (for other reasons) and I am having the problem much less frequently.

I am definitely going to do what you said, though.

Thanks again.

If you only have 32MB of RAM, you should crease a Linux Swap Partition on your hard drive to create some additional virtual memory.  Or if you have a MSDOS/Win95/Win98/WinME FAT/FAT32 partition on your hard drive, you can "Make a DOS swapfile" instead of repartitioning your hard drive and creating a new Linux Swap partition.

I would start with a swapfile / swap partition size of 64MB
