Hi:
I am considering installing a faxserver, HylaFAX (www.hylafax.org) under DSL.  Has anybody successfully installed and used it under DSL? I am interested in all responses (yes/no, good things/bad things)
.
In addition, HylaFAX requires the installation of:
1. SMTP server sendmail
2. Samba
I assume, but haven't looked enough into DSL, that sendmail is bundled with DSL?
Is Samba easily installable in DSL? How should it be installed?

Thanks for any insight into this matter...
John

Samba has been discussed many times on these forums so there is a lot of information on it.  It is available using the myDSL repository.  Click the MyDSL icon on the desktop and then the net repository.  Find the samba.dsl package.  Choose to download it and an samba icon will appear on your desk top.  This allows you to view other shares (windows and Linux) but to share from the DSL computer you will have to edit the /etc/samba/smb.conf file.  Anyway there is alot information and examples.

Sorry but I do not know about the other questions maybe someone else can help.

1) SMTP is not installed and developers have stated they don't want to bundle it. I think it's a pity but you can install it with apt-get and repackage it for yourself.

2) A samba client comes with DSL. A samba server comes by default in QEMU, so you could run a server from within another OS with QEMU and DSL as a guest OS.

The apt-get will install sendmail and this is the easist way. Then make sure sendmail works before you start with Hylafax. I have installed this setup before on a couple of redhat machines. It did not work very well for sending faxes, receiving was OK. I ended up running a fax program that came with a cheap modem, under wine to get out going faxes to work better. :)
