Emelfm TroubleForum: Apps Topic: Emelfm Trouble started by: Josiah Posted by Josiah on Aug. 07 2006,23:09
Hi all, I have backup restore configured to write to a HD partition hda3 (frugal lilo install, now changed to a grub install). It works for all default settings. However, I need a persistent root password. I tried to add /etc/shadow to filetool (as root of course) but emelfm simply displayed "end of output" and failed to add the file to filetool. Also, i tried to use emelfm to edit /etc/lilo.conf by right clicking on it and clicking "view" in beaver, but I was not able to toggle off readonly mode in beaver. It's as though emelfm doesn't recoginze me as being root. What is causing this? Posted by rockets on Aug. 07 2006,23:50
Did you open emelfm as root? rt clk icon and go.

You don't need to be root to set up your backups, and you *shouldn't* be root in most cases. The backup/restore system has been designed to be easy for user dsl to enable it and to add/remove files to filetool.lst (the file is owned by dsl and resides in his home directory). |
