Hi,

I tried to install openoffice through mydsl with no luck. So i just used the tar.gz file it downloaded and i tar -xzvf op*n.tar.gz and this installed it to  /mnt/hda1/opt (where i want it actaully as i dont want it booting up on startup) I can run openoffice succefuly now but i have to start it from the shell. When i origialy installed oo from mydsl it placed nice little icons on my desk top. I have found these icons in /mnt/hda1/home/dsl/.xtdesktop.

My problem is when i put these files into ramdisk/home/dsl/xtdesktop  and add line  ramdisk/home/dsl/xtdesktop to filetool.list it doesnt work.
through some sort of workaround i cant remember i got the icons to stay in ramdisk/home/dsl/xtdesktop but when i startx none of my icons loaded up on screen at all. I removed the icons from ramdisk/home/dsl/xtdesktop  and now im back to normal.

How can i have the open office icons load onto my desktop? i have made an icon before and that works it seems theres a limit to how many icons i can have or something.

Thank you

Uh, you probably ran out of memory.

If you notice, it says you need at least 3xx mb.  I'd recommend for you to try the .uci versions (or unc if there is one).

Otherwise, you could look in the wiki/forums/docs on how to add icons.

Rather than using tar to manually install a mydsl package, you should use "mydsl-load packagename" or use the "load local" button in the myDSL gui tool. Extracting the files with tar directly will likely cause file permission troubles, and, as you've seen, it will not properly install the desktop icon or menu item.
