Hi! I´ve installed XAMPP on DSL with "tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.5.4a.tar.gz -C /opt" Everything during install looks good. What must I do now to start?? I´ve read that there must be only input "lampp start". I did, bu nothing happens.

Sorry but I forget one Information:- Starting "/opt/lampp$ lampp start" from ATerminal gets the message "You nedd to start XAMPP as root!". The message above only comes at the first time starting a ATerminal.

Prepend your command with "sudo" for root privileges.

Hi! Thanks for Your answer. I´ve tried it. Change with "sudo su root" but then I got the message "command not found". Only at the first time after starting ATerminal when I start the command with in this moment looked User "DSL" I got the message "You need to start XAMPP as root". I ´ve no idea. - Maybe I make somethink wrong by changing user? What I noticed is that for the DSL- User when changing the path it looks like "/opt/lampp$". When I changed to root user there I see "/opt/lampp#".
I have to say that I´m a linux-beginner.

Prepend, or prefix it.  i.e. sudo <your command>.  DSL's sudo is set up to keep the existing environment.

sudo should exist in your system though (maybe something is messed up?)

Hi! Thanks for answering. I´m sorry but I don´t know what to do. What I did now is: - add user root, - su root,- install xampp again,- change to /opt/lampp,- command "lampp start",- result: "bash: lamp: command not found".
Only when starting "ATerminal" new and command-line is "dsl@box:$. I change to "/opt/lamp" and start "lampp start", I got the message "You need to start XAMPP as root". In all other cases I got the message "command not found".
I don´t now what to do/ happens.- The installation guide for Xampp seems easy, but not for me and my system!?!?
I´ve installed my system not for multiuser.

Root is already a user; no need to create it.

You should not be logged in as root to install mydsl extensions, and extracting them as a way to install is also not a good idea. Use the mydsl icon or the command "mydsl-load /path/to/app", as user dsl.

You seem to have completely misunderstood (or ignored?) what ^thehatsrule^ said to you, since you seem to have gone in a different direction.

You must learn some of the basics of Linux. It looks like the problem you are having relates mostly with having little concept of permissions and PATH. Hopefully you installed DSL as a frugal system rather than a fully writable harddrive install, or I'd say you've probably already damaged your system.

Hi! Thanks for answering. I think now I´ve got it. Xampp is running. - Now I have to look about importing my Side who is using odbc-connections at a win-PC with xampp. Which files must be copied into which path on the new system?
