Just installed .8 to my harddrive.  Downloaded something called "dsl-dpkg-dsl" and thought I'd get  Firefox with it but didn't.  In 6.3 it was right there at "got the bandwidth".  Where's it at in .8?   Thanks.  What's "synaptic"

You can get the old firefox.tar.gz at..

"Synaptic" is a graphical user interface for the Debian apt-get repository .
Rather than using a shell to run the apt-get utilities, you can use Synaptic.

<<EDIT>>  A new .dsl file - Firefox-0.9.3.dsl was added today..

I didn't see Firefox in Synaptic.  I did download Moz 1 though.  How can I get an icon for the desktop?

It is in the testing area. Be sure to force your browser to re-load.
