Hey all-I'm trying to run a website form my cable connection using DSL, dynamic dns and Monkey. The dynamic dns has assigned my cable IP however I cant get my addy to resolve. Two things it might be..the Monkey configuration or my router configuration. I'm trouble shooting and I cant find documentation on how to get the Monkey Webserver to serve up pages(works fine on the LAN)..for things like virtual hosts etc... Numenor,I am new to this myself, but it works for me. I am running DSL 0.8.3 from a hard drive install for my Monkey web server. I found that my Monkey would serve up pages fine on the LAN just by clicking/seleting the MonkeyWeb button on DSLpanel on the desktop. That proves that Monkey web server is running. However, this will not get your pages to the outside world. In my case, I had to change some settings on my home router/firewall. I have a D-Link router/firewall and broadband cable access to the intenet. On my router/firewall, there is an option to enbale "Virtual Server HTTP" I enabled this option and provieded the IP address of my Monkey server. You may also be able to modify the 'port' that is uses. Also, the firewall had to have a 'rule' that would allow HTTP on port 'whatever' to pass thru to the IP address of the Monkey server. Depending on your router/firewall, it should be fairly apparent what you need to do. As long as Monkey is serving on your LAN, I wouldn't jack with it just yet. Your router/firewall is probably doing it's job by not allowing certain ports or traffic to access your LAN. Also, you MUST know your outside IP address, which your router/firewall should tell you if you poke around on it looking for your WAN address, which should be received or supplied by your cable ISP. Once your 'rules' are set up properly, you should be able to browse to your outside IP address then your router/firewall will forward that incoming traffic to the IP address of your Monkey, assuming that you told your router/firewall the proper IP address to forward it to. I hope this helps a little. Not knowing what your setup is, it is difficult to tell you exactly what you need to do. But with a little poking around, you should be able to get things set up. If you are still having trouble, visit the website for the manufacturer of your router/firewall, as I am quite sure that they have been asked these same questions multitudes of times and probably have an FAQ section with the answers you need for setting up your gear properly.
