getting rio 600 mp3 player working with dslForum: Apps Topic: getting rio 600 mp3 player working with dsl started by: mustang335 Posted by mustang335 on April 02 2005,18:43
I am trying to gain access to a rio 600 mp3 player. I downloaded rio600-0.4.tar.gz . After unzipping and tarring I went to directory and typed ./configure . I recieved an error that said x-includes not found need path. I was able to get past that with the configure option, ./configure --X-includes=/etc/r11/x --x-libraries=/etc/r11/Xresources which showed where the libraries and includes are. Now the program stops at libxext which dsl does not have. That extension seems to belong to X11R6. Will that be compatable with x11 if I install the lib or do I need to install the new X11R6 x window system to use it. Thanks Marty

My advice.Download and boot up knoppix version 3.4 5-17-04 and then use it to make your rio600 binaries. Then copy them over to your DSL storage area. There are also some rio based utility packages in the Debian repository that you can apt-get or use synaptic to install Just make sure to change your /etc/apt/sources.list to point to Debian testing repository < http://packages.debian.org/testing/sound/rioutil > Posted by mustang335 on April 02 2005,22:54
Thanks for the ideas. I also found the files in /usr/X11R6 and /usr/lib in dal but can't get the configure to find them. I will try the Debian apts in the depository. Thanks again. Quite the challenge. Marty

I managed to get rioutil installed using the deb file from debian. I had to update zlib1g and install libusb . I now have the program running and it located the rio 600. The challenge now is to get it to upload mp3s. It tells me error when I try to upload . Thanks again Marty

sucess, rioutil works with the rio 600. It allows upload and download of songs. I have 3 rio's to work from . I have two working and the third will not accept songs or a songlists. I believe the windows program erased a program called preferences.bin that is located in the track number folder. No access. I am thinking that I can copy the preferences.bin from 1 rio and insert it in the flash memory of the other rio. a challenge . any idea's Marty
