First off I must warn you I am a linux newbie. I have a little practice with knoppix and I have been reading the linux bible 2005.I have the latest version of dsl. I have crossover office. I run the live cd. I want to install crossover office (to use with specifically IE6) Crossover office comes as "install xxxxxxx.sh" or something similar. I want to install it. I also want to either remaster the cd or create a usb flash drive install of dsl with crossover office installed on it. I understand that crossover office is like 43mb, I don't mind. So now I guess I am requesting help accomplishing this. Thanks H Posted by Hunter on April 13 2005,04:36

If you go to the mydsl-section of the forum, you'll see that you asked about basically the same thing there ;-)My reply was that there shouldn't be any problems making a .dsl of your crossover office installation. Just install it to /home/dsl. Then you will need to tar the cxoffice/ and the .cxoffice/ directories, and I believe that will be it. You can rename the cxoffice.tar.gz and call it cxoffice.dsl if you like that better. I guess you could also make a .uci extension of it, but I haven't tried that myself, so you chould use the search-button and see what you find! I'll be interested to hear how things work out! If you succeed, I'll try and make a crossover.dsl of my own CrossoverOffice package. -r Posted by reidar on June 30 2005,08:29
After doing a frugal install on my new laptop, I decided to try and install crossover office (I purchased a version a while ago). After a few attempts, I realised that the magic trick was to first install gtk2.dsl! Crossover office seems to depend on something within that extension. So, what I did (have a frugal install with persistant /home and /opt (on the hdd) was simply to install gtk2.dsl through emelfm (have it in an optional folder on my hdd), then put the install_crossover***.sh install file in my /home/dsl. Type ./install_crossover***.sh, and then you should be rolling... Works like charm for me anyway!-r |
