Greetings !

I've just asked you yesterday...now, I've discovered...maybe I've tried to add a user without being root...don't remember, whatever...

You have to add a system - wide user, and it's home directory is going to be the document root...
I suppose there isn't to much to configure, because betaftp isn't using any configs...

I use it every day.

Just start the daemon, and users can log in with their usernames and passwords.

Very simple.

Depends on what you mean by safe. Betaftpd lets whoever logs in view every file on your computer, and change whatever files they have permission to. But they have to login with a username and password, so whatever.

You can't.

If you need anonymous login for ftp, get the PureFTPd extension from MyDSL.

When you first login to a ftp account, you start our in the user's /home directory. So that's usually a good place to start.

I have my ftp users' homes symlinked to another drive, for space reasons, but you can put the files wherever you want, really, since Betaftpd allows users to view all files on the system.

If you do not know how to do this, you better not do this for security issues.  Daemons are dangerous; Windows makes use of a lot of them without the user knowing it.

But if you really want to learn how, browse through this forum for topics that discusses "filetool.lst" and "bootlocal.sh".  There is an item about this on the Dillo/DSL startup window that you get whenever you boot up with DSL.  You have to be competent enough to read this, otherwise do not set any daemon to start automatically during boot up.
