Gimp 2.2 Freetype load problemForum: Apps Topic: Gimp 2.2 Freetype load problem started by: Max Posted by Max on May 31 2005,18:58
Hello all...I'm running DSL 1.1 with the toram option. Loaded Gimp-2.2.0.dsl from emelfm. When I start Gimp (from icon or menu) I immeadiately get a pop up that says: Free Type version too old. GIMP requires Free Type version 2.1.7 or later. Installed Free Type version is 2.1.5. I searched the forums but didn't see any other posts relating to this error. Any fixes?? Well...I'm not sure exactly what happened. But I rebooted DSL for a fresh load and ONLY loaded Gimp 2.2.0.dsl and it worked fine.Previously I had loaded some other .dsl apps and one of them must have apparently downgraded Freetype?? I had loaded quite a few apps so I'm not sure which was the offensive one. (Mplayer, Xine, dsl-dpkg, gnu-utils, gt2k, etc., etc.) If I notice which app is changing the FreeType setting I'll be sure to post it. Posted by Max on May 31 2005,20:05
I believe the problem was the version of gnu-utils.dsl.When I load the one found in /mydsl/system I get the Free Type error. When I load the one found in /mydsl Gimp 2.2 seems to run fine. We might want to replicate the newer version to /mydsl/system so others don't have problems either. Posted by Max on May 31 2005,20:35
Also if I load gtk2.dsl after Gimp 2.2 is loaded the Free Type 2.1.7 problem re-appears.

Then I guess it's time to upgrade the gtk2.dsl again..Thanks for the feedback.. Curious about the gnu-utils, there is only one copy .. The other one is only a symlink , or so I believed.. See if you get a different md5sum from those two. 73 ke4nt Posted by 1nc09nit0 on June 01 2005,15:24
also mplayer and rox filer downgrade the freetypei also have this problem and am finding myself having to put m player in my optional dir and installing when needed (because i use gimp all the time) Posted by mikshaw on June 01 2005,15:44
ke4nt!Gimp sounds like prime material for a UCI...what you think? Of course I'm not specifically offering to attempt this...just saying. Posted by Max on June 01 2005,16:50
Your perfectly correct ke4nt. The md5sum for gnu-utils.dsl was the same for the /mydsl and the /mydsl/system versions.I'll have to track down exactly what I did. Maybe it was the order of loading... Gimp -> gnu-utils versus gnu-utils -> Gimp. I'll post back when I trace it down. |
