When I try to use the NetHack MyDSL extension in DSL 1.2, the game quits right when I open it. I'm booting the embedded version from a 512MB Kingston DataTraveler I flash drive using the USB boot floppy. It does the same thing on all the computers that I tested it on. By the way, I checked the MD5 checksums of the tarball on my flash drive and a newly downloaded one, and got the same result.

No issues whatsoever.

Believe me. I'd die without my nethack.

Check your md5sum against the nethack.tar.gz.md5 file on the mirrors. I have a feeling that you have a bad download.

Try installing the extension from inside an xterminal window:

cd /to/place/where/extension/is/located
mydsl-load nethack.tar.gz

and see if you get any error messages.

The checksums in both nethack.tar.gz.md5 and the nethack tarball on my flash drive are 5ce53da95c1ce2a53fdf7223918f4c96.

Edit: The same thing also happened with the xboing and xpuyopuyo apps in the MyDSL repository. Those games worked for me in 1.1, but not 1.2. I'm going to a computer at my college sometime soon and post the results here while running DSL 1.2.

I finally got those apps to run in DSL 1.2! The problem was that I have to be root to run NetHack. Is there any way I can run it as a normal user?

I see the same thing...

Changing the file ownerships in /opt/nethackdir to dsl.staff
seems to make it better..

Wonder what the diff is from 1.1 to 1.2 ?
Should we rebuild the nethack to include some files under group .staff ?

When I open the new nethack extension in emelfm, I get the following:

Warning: Cannot convert string "nh10" to type FontStruct

Bad syntax in OPTIONS in .nethackrc: graphic_tombstone

We're working on a solution as it is affecting some other extensions as well.
