Wine from apt-get repository.

( as user dsl )
1. Install dsl-dpkg.dsl
2. Install gnu-utils.dsl

( as user root )
3. Change /etc/apt/sources.list from oldstable to stable.
4. apt-get update
5. apt-get install wine

( as user dsl )
6. Run ' winesetup '

If you change your sources.list to 'testing', installing wine from apt is not that simple, as it wants to update e2fsprogs, which requires a temporary supsension of the currently running version.  'Fact, i believe this happens on the first apt-installed package from testing, no matter what it is.
as root:
apt-get install -o apt::force-loopbreak=true wine
might do it. I might have the syntax a little off - could be '-o apt::forceloopbreak=true'.  It will ask you to shut down various services before continuing, but done it multiple times from fresh DSL installs and just rebooted afterwards and had no problems.

As far as Cedega goes, ive only been toying with it for a little while and havent gotten it to work with gta:vc yet.. :(  Im using a pirated copy though.  I intend to try again soon with CVS, so ill post back what happens here.

I did a wine install for the first time about a month ago.  Put my "windows" drive on a permanent partition and then ran the deb2dsl script and now have a wine.dsl in my /optional directory.  To my surprise, the thing worked fine the very first time.

The only other thing I did was to put the "Dos devices" subdirectory (home/dsl/.wine/dosdevices)  into my .xfiletool.lst

Of course, saying it's installed and saying it'll run the programs I want are two different things....

This is Keo-Keo from forums.xbox-scene.. I had created a xwine.dsl for XDSL which should work in DSL itself.. < http://www.x-dsl.org/downloads/xwine.dsl > Type winesetup even though most things already work "Out of the box"

woop woop! very cool...
could you give a list of apps/games/anything that you've found working with it?  in fact, that'd be a cool spot for the wiki, a list of apps known to work well in wine+DSL.

http://frankscorner.org/ I would use that list.. If anyone would like to add it to myDSL repository or put me in the right direction.. Thats would be awesome.. So far i have tested Starcraft (working great!) I'm mosty doing a little development for XDSL < http://x-dsl.org > but friedgold takes most of the workload! (much smarter than I) So i can't test everything (xbox is a 733 with only 64mb's of ram)

Keo-Keo I'm trying to use Xwine, but I'm running into problems.  After I download it and add it to myDSL, I try to run winesetup, but all it says is that the command isn't found.  When I try just typing wine, it says
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/dsl/.wine'...
ln: /home/dsl/.wine-Kulj0L/dosdevices/c:: Operation not permitted
wine: wineprefixcreate failed while creating '/home/dsl/.wine'.

Any ideas?

Ke4nt you are my savior!!
I have tried everything, even install it from the .deb packages, and finally it was so simple.
I just want to add the following (replace previous step 6 with this one)

( as user root )
6. apt-get install winesetuptk

( as user dsl )
7. Run ' winesetup '

Hi Matsua,

Can you do the wine install on a frugal install with persistant /home and /opt? If so, what did you have to save?

Thanks!
