there do not seem to be many ppl on the irc (at least not when i am on).
go to #damnsmalllinux or use the link in the fluxbox menu.

heh, i'm there quite a bit, but the last day or so my high-speed connection has been down.

having to use netzero in windoze...

It's hard because the traffic there is so light.  How long can you "hang out" doing nothing waiting for someone to join?  Look how many posts a day we get on the forums.

I'd be up for a DSL night.  Pick a time we can all agree on and then meet there.  Or take shifts so if you go there is always someone there.

Who knows, maybe if more people hung out there, those times people would stay awhile instead of popping in and out.

I like the idea of a "dsl night" ..
Good show, clacker..

Now if I could learn how to use the nirc  :)

I also vote for the "DSL night" idea. It will give me a good reason to get on irc. I have never done it before.

How about tonight?  I'll try to be on as long as I can.

Ke4nt1, nirc isn't that hard to use.  Choose from the right click menu:

apps->Net->nAIM/nIRC/nICQ->nIRC

Anything you type everyone can see, unless you put a / in front of the first word.  Those are the commands.  some of the most common one are:

/nick putyourhandlehere
do this first to let us know who you are
/away my reason
when you go away but are coming back soon, let us know
/names
who's on right this channel now?
/exit
    drop the connection and leave

That's it.  If you type without a / it is seen by everyone on that channel.  Otherwise it's a command.  Get into trouble? close the window.

Posted by clacker on Sep. 29 2004,11:46
and I was there for 6 hours before that and only three people came through.

timing is everything.

There has been MUCH more traffic in the last 48 hours
in the IRC channel...  #DamnSmallLinux @ irc.freenode.net

Give it a go...

just in case anyone actually cares, i figured out why i cant get on irc on my highspeed connection.

my isp recently installed a new firewall, and it doesn't allow port:6667 (irc) connections.

needless to say i complained (loudly) and (hopefully) this will be fixed shortly.

OT: been a lot of fun chatting it up with you guys.
