Hey John,Who's running the Mini-ITX Store? I placed a order on the 28th of September. I still have not heard a thing or had any of my emails returned or any funds removed from my account. Are you still receiving email at the john "at" damnsmalllinux address? Maybe I've been sending them to the wrong place. Please let me know so I can figure out what to do. Hi Joel.I emailed you -- maybe the email got filtered. I was away for two weeks and things backed up. We are getting close, you are about next. John Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Oct. 05 2004,03:54
speaking of the store, how's that going? makin any money? *wink, wink* *nudge, nudge*what things are selling well? do you plan to carry Nano-itx stuff when it comes out? how about low-profile ram? that stuff is hard to find... or pcmcia wireless cards that work with DSL? or maybe modems? just a few ideas. and harassing people is fun ^_^ -J.P. Sorry John,Didn't mean to rag on you, but I'm really looking foword to running my Laptop from compact flash, and BTW, the only filter I have in place is for a guy spamming me from Russia, but stranger things have happened. I figured something was up when I didn't get a return email. I have a Sandisk 256 meg CF all partitioned and ready to go with 8.2 on it, so all I should have to do is plug it in. It is going to be my streaming audio player for my home stereo system. Thanks John. Posted by John on Oct. 05 2004,07:21
SaidinUnleashed, the store is doing pretty good, sometimes I wish I could keep the items instead of shipping them off. We will be carrying the nanos when they finally become available. As for the other stuff, you never know. Joel, sorry for the mixup, I think you will like running DSL from flash -- just remember to run it as a frugal install. Posted by satoshi on Oct. 05 2004,19:58
Does anyone know where I can buy a 2.5" DVD-Rom and HDD from? Preferably not too expensive either, and the HDD should be at least 40gb... I checked newegg.com, but all they had was notebook harddrives and I don't want to get a converter. Erm.. Actually, I've never dealt with any slim drives before... Will this < dvd-rom > and this < harddrive > work in this < case >?

Over a year ago I had an 80 GB hard drive go out, and being mean and stingy, I decided to go the route of live cd distros. I replaced the hard drive on one box with a small 500 MB one, almost given away nowadays. Put MSDOS and Arachne 1.70 on it, and that keeps the motherboard happy as I boot DSL daily on that box, from the CDROM drive, a 50X, also fairly cheap. Then I came into a 2.5 GB hard drive that no one could get to boot Windows anymore, so I put SuSE 6.3 on it, installed it as slave and use a msdos menu on the little 500 MB drive to boot it via loadlin. Still love to run DSL, however, it's better. --- People won't need much in the way of a hard drive when Microsoft finally gets sunk by security problems. Dell's selling boxes that can use 3 GB ram now, so the whole thing can run in ram, and have almost 99% left over! (Don't ask me where I get my figures). --- Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Oct. 06 2004,01:05
satoshi: try Fry's Outpost.com. and if you want a slim HDD, I have never seen a desktop IDE one, all of the one's I'e seen are 44 pin notebook IDE. Besides, converters are cheap. As for slim DVD-ROMs, you might simply go out and buy one of those Toshiba laptop DVD-ROMs and take it out of Toshiba's little case. 99% of the ones I've seen are 44-pin Notebook IDE behind an adapter to plug into the mobo. And, they're only like $50. And the Store WILL be carrying nano-itx?!? SCHWEET!! Incase anyone is interested in why I asked, I'm going to put an nano-itx box (booting DSL from CF) in the stereo slot in my new truck when i get it. Which will be before Christmas, I hope... Also will have a 30gb laptop HDD for mp3's, a < 7.8'' (touchscreen if it works with DSL, or if i can get the drivers compiled) LCD screen mounted in the dash >, a 4.1 surround system, dvd burner. It'll be about as l33t as you can get in a truck. -J.P. SaidinUnleashed EDITUS: foxrd teh speeling... EDITUS2: Linky for LCD touchscreen... Posted by satoshi on Oct. 06 2004,15:37
Alright, after doing some more research on the mini-itx site, I've come across this: < this > page, down under the "Morex Cubid 3688 Mini-ITX Case - Black" heading, says that the case comes with adapters for both the optical drive and the harddrive: You will need a 2.5" laptop style hard drive and perhaps a slimline optical drive (adapters are included for both). I was wondering if it was sold exactly the same in the DSL store, I wanna buy from the DSL store because a) the shipping is too damn much from mini-itx.com, and b) I love DSL and would like to give back to it in some way. So, if anyone's ordered this case before, or if John can reply, does it come with these adapters?Edit: Also, how does one choose whether he wants the white or the black case on the DSL store? |
