Posted by henk1955 on Nov. 04 2004,08:59
#damnsmallinux is not dead.
we dont all live in the same timezone.
and nIRC is not the most atractive irc client, it may scare people to use it.
if we all give our Location in Profile. we an gues when your online.
and if your online to browse the dsl-forum you can have a look at the #damnsmalllinux irc.freenode.net  at the same time.

I use X-Chat

Perhaps a xchat.dsl is in order??

Even better..

There is already an "xchat.tar.gz" ram friendly extension in the "net" section of the repository.
Python is required, and there is a ram friendly .uci version available.

I'd still like to do some work on that one..
Making the paths and exports to python makes it misbehave sometimes.
Perhaps another eyeball on it would improve it.
I'm running it at the moment, and it is behaving nicely..Hmm..

HOLY CRAP there have been a lot of people needing help in IRC today!

At one time I had 5 (i think, could have been 6) issues going at once, and I was the only one there.

But it was fun.

gotta take a break for a while.

Now you know what Ham Radio Contesting feels like, only no "issues" , but
all the "communication" you can handle!  Of course, you must be accurate with your
information exchanges,  and when your making 200+ new contacts per hour,
you get wired, and tired all at the same time...   sure is FUN though!

Especially with a large group of 5 or more , simultaneously, for 48 hours, nonstop.
It's a BLAST !!   You can do it with about a dozen guys, switching off shifts..

The rush is one-of-a-kind..

Glad to see your 'likin' it!   :)
We'll see if you can "up" your rate from 5 or 6
It would be even more real if they had "accents"
respective of their geographical locations!

I haven't used IRC in years, and didn't know much about it then - can you be on any server and just go to #damnsmalllinux, or do you have to be on a specific one?
I'm in Brisbane, Australia, so local time is GMT+10... so it looks like my 12noon Monday is like 6pm - 9pm Sunday in the US... so when's everyone usually go on IRC?
Just found this site,
Should come in handy for coordinating.

Any way of getting multiple clocks in DSL, with time zones from major areas, eg a US-ish clock, a Europe-ish clock, etc., to get a rough idea of what time it is in the rest of the world?:p
