In the spirit of < these people >, I have decided to camp out, every night, in front of my computer, until the next release of DSL.

"Why?" you ask?

Partly because I find the prospect amusing. And other part is, because I want my DSL hot from the oven, so to speak.

and to make fun of the star wars freaks. XD

Call me crazy. (o)_(o)

I dare ya. :P

Don't get me wrong, I like DSL, but is it better than Star Wars?  I'm reading the novelization of episode three, and when I'm done with that then I'll get upgrade from RC1.0.

Well, I think DSL is better than Star Wars, but that's just me. ;)

Not that I don't love Star Wars, mind you; I would have camped out for the first movie back in the '70s if my parents had let me and my kid would camp out for the newest movie if I wasn't about to do a HD install on his PC.

:D

I'll be camping out for SWIII - for maybe an hour or two.  Already got my tickets, guaranteed seat, just no guarantee on where you sit.  But I'll be in there, cloak flowing and sabre lit.
But hell, I've been camping out for DSL for the past year or so - if you can call checking the forum several times a day camping out...

his lack of faith is disturbing, The Dark side has many powers, none that can be gained through shortcuts such as advance stories.

Well, couldn't be bothered making a cloak in the end, but here's me with my old master, Count Chrisco.

..... you don't do either one... these movies are pathetic and retarded the only reason I saw a little tiny bit of the first one was when my brother went out and rented it a long time ago.. it was just like lord of the rings, I couldn't stomach it longer than 10 minutes. Anyone who says "What if this were real life?!" while watching these movies needs to get out more and get a grip on reality...

If you were camping out over here in England, you would need your thermals and waterproofs, AND you probably couldn't solar power your batteries. A 500ml (that's half a pint!) stainless steel Thermos would be as valuable as your DSL!

My community is so rural that not only didn't we need to camp out, but we had a half-empty theater the first week the movie was released. All I have to say is see it. There are some notable parallells with....

....this isn't a political forum so I'll trail off in the middle of a sentence now....

...which might be disturbing and thought-provoking to people of certain nationalities, but when the script was written, these parallells were simply repetitive trends in history that are just as inexorable as trends in Physics, such as dropped objects falling to the floor rather than the ceiling.

Fortunately, I did not have to camp out for the freshest DSL; I was visiting a friend who has broadband and he mentioned his very old laptop that was headed for the dump, so I told him about DSL and he burned me an iso that downloaded in less than half an hour whille we were jabbering.

Kind of exciting for a die-hard dial-up enthusiast, but my reasons for not using broadband are.....

....better discussed on a more appropriate forum.

I'm so rural too, but that's a joke, I live on a TINY island (U.K.,) in Europe, not exactly Nevada or Alaska.
Anyway, where I live I can't get a cellphone signal, and 4 rather than 5 TV channels. I suppose I should be grateful!?!
I guess there's parts of the U.S. where you can't get a cellphone signal?
I lived in Athens Greece for a while. When it rains (rare,) the phones don't work properly. Nor can the city drains cope with much rain. One time it rained bad, streets became rivers, one lady got washed down the drain, body found out at sea.

We get one TV station since we don't have cable. ;)

I'm in Northern CA, and it's small enough that I like to use little euphemisms on the internet instead of the real name of the town. It's hard for people in other regions of the US to believe just how redneck this place is. It's kind of an odd mixture of redneck majority and very vocal and very different minority, but I'm getting over a period of several years of despising this town and starting to find things to like about it.

I apologize for the actions of my government. Not everybody here supports everything the current powers-that-be do and I am not the only ignorantly provincial citizen who hates my ignorant provinciality and is doing the best I can to change that about myself.

To get back on topic, even if you have Xmule and a fast broadband connection, this movie is definitely worth seeing in a theater the first time through.

Interbreeding and cider abuse manifested in emergence of 1st psychiatric institutions; on English Welsh border in the 19th century. Fear is that compassion will cease to be.

Wish a fraction of what George wants to spend on atomic power stations, spent on redundant nuclear submarine Timebombs.
Life goes on. Not to worry.

Wow! 5 channels!? Where I live, we only get 2 channels on peasant vision (thats what we call it out where I live if your only tv is via the old fasion antenna/wabbit ears). Fortunately, my family has been on cable tv for the past 5 or 6 years.

What's cable TV?

What's cable TV?

A monthly bill I can't afford, lol. I haven't had it since my thirteen year old was an infant, but I think it costs about:

25.00 USD = 14.0493 GBP

to get four channels coming in clearly and about:

60.00 USD = 33.7057 GBP

if you want special channels for movies, sports, news, etc.

Cable companies also offer broadband service, which is faster or slower than ADSL, depending on where you live. Hopefully somebody can correct me if I'm way off about the cable television rates, because I'm not a big fan of the kind of television shows shown in the US, to put it mildly.

I'm a dial-up maniac personally, but that and no cable TV sure don't do anything to endear me to my  neighbors, who consider me about halfway between an eccentric and a lunatic. ;)

I haven't watched TV regularly since '96, but my boy has a $10 thrift store special  he has to keep in his room. Usually I can find transcripts or video clips of what I want to know about online, but sometimes I do watch special  news reports.

I've heard from multiple sources that I won't be able to do this in a couple of years unless I shell out the money for a digital TV; the bottom-of-the-line costs more than my laptop, so I have no intention whatsoever of doing so.

I pay about 35 bucks for 130 chanels, on demand (movies and shows that you start) and another 40 for my broadband.

Is it considered camping if the arrival of DSL isn't my primary goal?  It's way too early in the morning and my roommate is playing World of Warcraft again and although he turns the sound down when I ask him, I wake up again 20 min later to what I percieve to be a full battalion of tin soldiers each intent on rattling their sword and making a general raucus.  And some old creepy guy keeps laughing through it all no and again.  So I gave up and now I'm doing the passive aggressive bit and hunkering down at the laptop.  Oh well.  I haven't even installed DSL 1.4 yet.  I should really get on that.
