I was rattling on the other day to some coworkers about how DSL rocks. Shortly after, I was accused of being a geek.

How did this happen?
Am I a geek?

What makes someone a geek?

Being a geek isnt always a bad thing...just read the bumpersticker

"Be nice to geeks, you never know when you will work for one"

Green, I too have apparently moved over to the darkside. My IT friends at work have changes my name from livesay to linuxsay.  :D

Someone posted a geek test on a lug site and I scored at 48% so I'm still in training. Amazing because a couple years ago I would probably have been at 10%. Linux and DSL in particular, have definitely raised my scores. :)

green, I know when you converted. It was the day you created your first mkmydsl cd!!

Ah, that was a good day. I still remember it so clear.

I'd proudly wear a geek badge, like those badges I used to wear at school for swimming and stuff.
Would love to take a geek test, would be interesting. Didn't have computers when I went to school (was born in 1967, not 68,) I'm 38 and on some levels my brain will stop expanding at 42.

THAT'S why ke4nt drinks so much coffee. It keeps those old braincells awake!  :;):

I first knew I was hooked on being a 'geek'
when my grandmother gave me one of these kits as a youngster,
and after assembly and testing, I understood 'how' it worked,
and wanted a bigger one..

It came out the same year I was born
I'm guessing she saved it for years before I ever got it..

One of my favs..  and a great memory even now..
My other luvs were model rocketry, and telescopes..

How 'geek' can u get?

My Dad was very proud when I did the Rubik's cube.
I remember being very thrilled.
Presently, I am very thrilled, cos I've subscribed to an isp & gone online for the 1st time in my life with my DSL. Up to now I've used libraries, but now I'm 24/7 from home.
Fantastic.

I was shocked when I took a geek test and scored a 98. Some of the questions were just general science questions (I'm an English major who never got past an associate degree) and off the wall stuff like recognizing pictures, not having to look at the periodic table of elements to remember stuff, etc.

I didn't get my first computer until December of 2001. I still have it.

I didn't open a case or upgrade RAM until 2003.

All of my desktops are lower-end OEM pieces of crap.

I didn't install Linux until last February.

I didn't use DSL until about a month after I joined here.

I just ordered my first laptop (Thinkpad T-21) and will replace a hard drive for the first time when it gets here.

Nonetheless, I frequently get chided for being a "geek" among friends, family, and neighbors.

Just remember what Chris Pirillo (of lockergnome fame) said at the height of the IT Boom...

"Geek used to be a four letter word, now it's a six figure one."

Knowledge is power, kids.

I'm a geek and proud of it. When all the idiots are flipping burgers and I'm making six figures, we'll see who's laughing. I knew I was a geek when I was the only one that passed algebra. Suckers.

Oh, and I do want fries with that. XD
