Ok heres my problem my windows has a virus.  This has made it so I cannot boot up.  I would like a way to rescue my Windows partition as it has lots of files I need.  Is there a way to get it so that the virus is deleted and windows is fixed through a live cd of some sort?

I know you can do it with knoppix (DSL is based on Knoppix) take a look at this thread.

KNOPPIX version 3.4 is great for this sort of thing.

It includes the "Captive-NTFS" system that allows you to read and write files to a Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 NTFS hard drive partition.

Also, the latest version of the INSERT livecd includes a script to activate captive NTFS but this script is not as easy to use as the KNOPPIX script.

Finally, the ULTIMATE BOOT CD with INSERT can also do this.   The UBCD has a modified version of INSERT and a slightly better Captive-NTFS script.

KNOPPIX 3.4 is still the best, but it is a big download (~700MB)
