Couple of questions on existing MyDSL filesForum: myDSL Extensions (deprecated) Topic: Couple of questions on existing MyDSL files started by: melange8272 Posted by melange8272 on June 29 2004,12:41
I must say that I have been floored recently by the progress made by the DSL recently. I have a couple of silly questions regarding the mydsl extensions since I'm still a bit of a noob..1) The copperwine theme is awesome - How can I make my own theme extension from one of the existing fluxbox themes on the fluxbox site? 2) How can I add additional roms to xmame, and can the screen be resized to fullscreen? 3) Can DSL be remastered in a way to load a Flash presentation on startup? I have played with movix for mpeg files, but have yet to come across a linux livecd solution that does flash. Thanks in advance, Melange8272 Posted by ke4nt1 on June 29 2004,16:30
Best thing to do is to untar the Coppermine theme. Copy it to a work or temp directory, and type 'tar xzvf Coppermine-theme.tar.gz' or ... 'tar xzvf C*' for short.. Look inside it for the contents.. /home/damnsmall/.fluxbox/backgrounds /home/damnsmall/.fluxbox/themes These hold all the files... When you get one from the fluxbox site, place the components inside these directories... edit the init file to your liking, or just copy it... keep ownership of files as damnsmall.staff... ( if you do this as user 'damnsmall' your probably ok ) tar and gzip it..
any rom can be run from the terminal 'xmame *path/to/name of rom*' Updating the mydsl-menu would require rebuilding the dsl. You could also make a new submenu entry, along with your favorite rom, and make an add-on .dsl file. ( like bigblaster.dsl for xmame ) search the forums for info on building your own dsl... type in a terminal 'xmame --help' for the syntax to run with larger screens. My kids know them by heart, but I can't remember them from memory.
If you find a player for flash files, making it autorun on bootup would be easy. I don't know if the xine or mplayer files have flash-play ability. If there is a plug-in, we can easily add it in.. 73 ke4nt Posted by melange8272 on June 29 2004,23:43
Thanks! I managed to convert 'combination' from the sid collection (on the fluxbox site) to work in dsl, and have been able to play a decent but laggy game of terminator 2 in xmame. A helacious yaay for the help! As for the flash presentation, can it be done with firefox and javascript to run fullscreen? I have seen it done in (eek) IE. I'm not sure how to set up things to run at boot up in dsl though.. any wisdom? Posted by roberts on June 29 2004,23:52
For X programs at start-up use the file .xinitrc add the X programs before the fluxbox line. Fluxbox must be the last line. For firefox settings and options, look in .phoenix file. |
