Since I had absolutely no luck installing gcc, g++ and make on my system, I decided to try this. I run mydsl-load gnu-utils.dsl and it does seem to load them (the terminal pauses for a minute, and the screen blinks, and then the terminal comes back). I am running it as root, so permissions are not an issue here. The thing is, it doesnt really install anything! Well, at least as far as I can tell. What exactly is this supposed to install? And why would it not be working for me?

If you have a fast system, then I would expect that behavior. It does not place an icon, or menu item. It restores the GNU utiltities, that busybox replaced. Look around in the /bin/ directory to see the results.

It is really quite simple to install gcc, make, etc. Search the forums it has been posted many times. The thing is to change your apt-sources to point to unstable. You did Enable Apt didn't you?

Nope......

My bad......

Seems I uploaded the wrong copy the last time I rebuilt it..
My script made a gnu-utils.new file.....whoops...

Correction made...  try grabbing the gnu-utils again..
Should do fine now

md5 = 4f0ccbd737aaa9f0798696fc9c0571e5  gnu-utils.dsl

hello,
seems to me that the size indicated in repository for this file is wrong ??? as i downloaded a 7 Mo file, not a 4,3 Mo one...
but md5 is correct :)

The page should reflect 6.9M , and should have updated nearly immediately.
Refresh your page cache, and see if if changes for you...
Sometimes I use (shift-refresh) to force it to reload.
The true file size should be 7146068 bytes

Thanks for the heads-up JeremyD

Hi there,

downloaded the latest gnu-utils and dpkg from the repository. Even with apt enabled when I try to run 'apt-get update' i get this error:

apt-get: error while loading shared libraries: libapt-pkg-libc6.3-5.so.3.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Now I made sure that it was the latest version of gnu-utils, even tried it with changing 'stable' to unstable', no luck.

Any ideas? :S

I just now tried it from liveCD, with these steps:

1. Using the system menu Apps-Tools->Enable Apt
2. myDSL desktop button to grab gnu-utils.
3. edited /etc/apt/sources.list changed stable to unstable
4. apt-get update

No problems.

What steps/environment are you using?
