Disclaimer: the box I have DSL installed on does not have an internet connection.  Everything I've tried doing is based on the .dsl extensions I have downloaded on this box here.

Okay, that said, I clicked on the .dsl I wanted to install(just so that we're not being totally vague, mplayer.dsl), and then clicked on the 'mydsl' button in emelfm.  However, once I did that, I got the following error:

tar: invalid gzip magic

Same thing would result when I tried typing in mydsl-load in the shell manually.  Just wondering what problem this is and how I can fix it ;)

Thanks!

if you have no net connection this will happen you need the gnu-utils.dsl or an enhanced dsl hd install.......

naah, should work fine, works great for me with no net connection. using emelfm rightclick on the dsl file and click open with, at the prompt type md5sum, press enter, go into the dsl repository, find the dsl in question and click the md5sum link, the 2 should match, if they do not then the file is corrupt and you should redownload.

edit:
welcome to the forums :) :) :)

erm....not being rude but how can you go to the repository without net access....?? :;):

Well I could always check out the md5sum up here, and see if they match ;)

I do wish I had a net connection on the other computer, though, it would make things so much simpler ;)

so to clarify your moving the file from one pc to the other.....into /home/dsl/
highlighting the  Mplayer.dsl in emelfm then pressing MYdsl
button.................
there is no reason for this not to work unless its a bad download

However if when you say you click on mplayer.dsl you are refering to the mydsl gui that no worky no net.......
hope this clears it up  feel free to reply if any of the above is assumed incorrectly

Ah, yes I tried using the mydsl button in emelfm to install mplayer.dsl.  But I also tried going through an xterminal and using mydsl-load, and that didn't work either.

Anyway I just checked the md5sum, and the one downstairs did not match the one in the repository, so I'm going to try downloading again.  I'll let you guys know if it works ;)

Well it worked, dunno why it didn't the first time.  In any case I've got both AbiWord & mplayer installed(however mplayer won't run, but I remember seeing a topic about that somewhere on the forum, so I'm going to browse around).  I think I may have to get some more extensions soon, hehe ;)

Thanks for all the help, it is appreciated :D
