*dsl,*.tar.gz overwrite directory owner, permisionsForum: myDSL Extensions (deprecated) Topic: *dsl,*.tar.gz overwrite directory owner, permisions started by: henk1955 Posted by henk1955 on July 08 2004,10:54
i think i have a problem.i did a manual frugal install and put all *.dsl and *.tar.gz that i want installed at startup in the root. this works fine, the programs get installed and work well. BUT: some of the myDSL i tried seem to change the owner:group or permissions of directories. samba.dsl: /home/damnsmall dir icewm-blue.dsl: /tmp dir bittorent-dsl: /tmp dir Is this a common problem? Can it be solved? henk Posted by ke4nt1 on July 08 2004,12:42
Yes, it is a problem..Especially for HDinstall users. Even more so for users of earlier versions of DSL ( pre 0.7 ) I have been actively rebuilding the extensions for the past several days, correcting perms/owners, removing overwritten directories, etc... Keep an eye on this thread.. < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....16;t=56 > Your correct that with a LiveCD or frugal, many of these problems are not immediately apparent in your use of the additions. While the new additions seem to work fine at first, eventually, you start to notice little things, like icons on the desktop refusing to start the associated apps, programs shutting down by themselves, CPU's going crazy, etc... Feedback like yours is essential to resolving these issues quickly. Your type of install will make it easy to resolve this.. Simply keep an eye on the repository, and upgrade your .dsl's and .tar.gz's to the latest builds when they appear. Each new build improves upon the last from feedback like yours. 73 ke4nt |
