Hi all,
I just built a new DSL disk based on 7.2 with all the myDSL extensions in the /optional directory of the CDROM. I've run this on my home machine and been able to install the myDSL extension there (ramdisk). I did a HD install to a Compaq Laptop 1800 and have DSL running with /optional directory copied over to the HD. However, when I try to install one of the myDSL extension nothing happens, no install, message nothing.

Now I should tell you that I had to install to the HD on the laptop this way; had to boot from a 7.1 floppy and then kick off the HD install from the CDROM. Also, for some reason, after the install DSL couldn't 'see' anything in the /optional directory on the CDROM. So I put the CRDOM in my work linux machine and used scp to copy the files over to the DSL laptop. I can see the files in the /optional directory, but still the myDSL tools won't install them.

Any suggestions about what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Doug

An incorrectly built *.dsl package sometimes require that you must be the 'root' user in order to deploy the extension.  Try this from an xterm:

sudo emelfm &

and then use the emelfm to install your *.dsl extension.

What do you get when you do "mydsl-load /path/to/file.dsl" in a terminal?

That seems to work, but if it has a menu item you lose ownership of your menu.

Actually, do not use sudo emelfm, because you will lose ownership of your menu and icons. The installation scripts are carefully made so that the proper ownership is in place at the proper time, i.e. menus stay made user user dsl, and other parts are loaded as super user. If you are having a problem with a particular extension, please post the specific extension by name, so that we may assist you.

Well, all I can say is D'OH!! I ended up building a new boot floppy from the boot.img with 0.7.2 and rebuilding the laptop and all is well. I'm able to install the myDSL extensions no problem. Not sure what caused the problem, but working now.

Thansk for all the replies,
Doug
