i just finished my third mydsl, here is a list of the ones i have done so far:

blast.dsl---------a cool program that allows you to blast holes in annoying apps.
falling_tower.dsl-a game where you have to jump between floors of a tower.
tictactoe.dsl----a tictactoe game that appears in the column with the proccessor usage etc.

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 07 2004,13:43
emailed snake.dsl
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 08 2004,10:48
whoot, my dsls are in the testing section.

3 of them are changed to .tar.gz so that will benefit low ram users.

go, try them out and tell me what you think.

thanks

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,13:43

is someone with lots of memory take up the challenge.

here is a good place to start:

Posted by ripcrd6 on Aug. 10 2004,14:26
How are you doing these so fast?  Dang, we are definitely going to need a category system in the repository just because of the games.  :p
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,14:37
download program, download dependancies, install dsl-dpkg, install dependancies, install program, run, use deb2dsl script, copy dsl file to disk, reboot, install dsl file, test, get md5sum, write info file, send.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,14:39
finished powermanga.dsl, too big to email, emailed about getting ftp access to upload.
working on quadra.dsl and then tux-aqfh.dsl.

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,14:40
also gonna do spellcast.dsl
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,14:44
quadra is not great and is definately not big enough to justify the size.

it is like tetris and we already have a perfectly good version of tetris.

doing spellcast while i am waiting for tux-aqfh to download.

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,14:47
i would be able to do them quicker if i had broadband :)
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,14:58
finished spellcast.dsl requires 2 pc's to play so i can't test it properly, i will send it and hope someone has the facilities to play it.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,15:03

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,15:15

sent wmpuzzle.dsl, finished for today methinks.
Posted by ripcrd6 on Aug. 10 2004,19:22
I noticed that you have done a couple of wm* doc apps.  Would you mind packaging up a wmweather+ or similar weather doc app,  all-in-one doc app ( < http://www.bensinclair.com/dockapp/showapp.php3?id=240 > ), and maybe a few others from the dock app warehouse ( < http://www.bensinclair.com/dockapp/ > )?
wmCalendar, WMWifi, one of the battery dock apps that look like the other dock apps already in the enhanced desktop of DSL.  Since you are doing this stuff anyway.  :p

ico2, I made a dsl file for Frecraft and submitted it.  I figured that was the only way I was going to get one in :;):

You're right, the fantastic deb2dsl failed to deliver the goods.  Most of the time that script works great.

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,20:08
wmweather and the others you mentioned are first on my list of todos for tommorrow, or i could make a start tonight :).
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,20:21
wmweather is a complicated 1, i think i can do it but it won't be that tiny.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,20:34
one particular library it requires seems to corrupt when downloaded.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,20:35
every time i download it the md5sum is different.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,20:36
gonna have a go at the allinone doc app and leave wmweather till the morning.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,20:38
0.4.1 is the only version in debian format so i'll do that one.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,20:42
installs no probs but when run it dissapears straight away.
Posted by ripcrd6 on Aug. 10 2004,20:55
You are way cool man.  I guess I don't need to make any .dsls, you are doing the ones I was just thinking about.  I saw some more games on the dock repository.  There was othello.  That'd be cool.
Or how about a seti client package with one of the seti dock apps included.

:O

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,20:57
ok, wmwifi is going ok, i will try to do others but no promises.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,20:58

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 10 2004,21:02

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 11 2004,09:35
done wmcalc and wmwifi, i am going to send them all in 1 email this evening.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 11 2004,09:36
i can only do ones that are debian packages, most are .tar.gz
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 11 2004,09:41
think i've got wmlaptop right but i can't tell because i don't have a laptop to test on.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 11 2004,09:43

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 11 2004,09:46

WMSeti, WMSETI, wmsetimon, 3 different dock apps at the dock app warehouse.
< http://wmseti.sf.net/ >

The first one has evolved into a monitor of other stuff.
The last one looks like the most recently updated.  The second or third one would be cool to package w/ seti at home.

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 11 2004,17:01
can't do seti bacause it has a post extraction script which will not work as a dsl,
i have done wmfrog which monitors the weather, sending later.

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 11 2004,21:25
done:
wmfrog-----weather app
wmcalc-----calculator app
wmlaptop---power monitor etc
wmwifi------wifi monitor
wmpinboard-notes to self

couldn't find any games as wm dockables in the repository that were debs, i did wmtictactoe as about my third 1 and it is in the testing section atm.

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,08:32
someone else has already done vncserver, i will have another go at seti.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,09:00
setiathome is definately not gonna work :(
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,10:43
finished wmclock.dsl and wmmoonclock.dsl
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,11:04
can't find wmmoonclock.dsl, must have deleted by accident, remaking. also wmpinboard.dsl is corrupted, it was fine when i tested it, so i don't know if it corrupted before or after i sent, remaking and resending.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,11:35
done.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,11:58
sent wmmoonclock.dsl, wmclock.dsk and wmpinboard (resend).

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,13:06
abuse.dsl finished and working, writing info file and sending.
Posted by adraker on Aug. 12 2004,13:07
Sure, wmppp.app & wvdial (though not a dockapp) would be
really handy for the dial up gang.
I'm putting the deb packs on my live CDs,and installing them with dpkg,
no depend probs, but with wvdial its best to have your wvdial.conf
stuffed into /etc before installing it- otherwise its post install configure time.
But I don't know if thats really a problem......
Anyway,wmppp.app would be good.

Adraker

requested ftp access to upload abuse.dsl, working on wvdial and wmppp
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,13:32
wmppp works ok, i have a winmodem so i can't test it properly, i will send and hope someone else can check it, now working on wvdial
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,13:33
i need to know what has to go in the config file for wmppp so i can put it in the .info
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,13:38
wvdial has a post install script :(, can't do it as a dsl.

sending wmppp.dsl as soon as i write the info file.

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,13:41
aaah, the post install doesn't run if the .conf is already there (i think that's what you said), can you post an example.conf file please.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,14:10
done acm.dsl (flying simulation), testing, writing info file and sending, i need the info about wmppp before i can send.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,14:25
sent acm.dsl
Posted by ripcrd6 on Aug. 12 2004,14:28
I have an idea on the pkgs requiring post install.  clacker posted instructions on capturing all changes after a certain timestamp.  See the subject, "Yet another way to make dsl files, using apt-get, find, grep, and tar."   That looks the most promising.
:)

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,15:01
will try to do seti in just a moment using that method.
just finished cgoban.dsl, just started dossizola.dsl

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,15:59
finished and sent dossizola.dsl, got to write cgoban.dsl info file and then will work on seti. i am not sure how to do the menu items that way.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,16:03
worked out the menu item, will do seti in a mo.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 12 2004,17:35
can't get that method of doing dsls to work :(
Posted by adraker on Aug. 12 2004,23:05
ico2-
Sorry, had to do that "sleep" thing...
I don't use a config with wmppp.app-
this is the stable version of the .deb package I refer
to.It has never asked for one,but then I just use
it as a monitor.I've never looked into making a config
for it.
A wvdial.config looks like-

[Modem0]
Modem    = /dev/ttyS1
Baud     = 57600
SetVolume = 0
Dial Command = ATDT
Init1    =  ATZ
Init2   = ATM0L0
FlowControl = Hardware(CRTSCTS)

[Dialer Defaults]
Phone = ISP_number_here
Username = name_ISP_gave_you
Password = password_ISP_gave_you
New PPPD = yes
Inherits = Modem0

This has to be edited with the users particular
details.I find the quickest way to get on line
with dialup is to burn my wvdial.config, wmpppapp,
and wvdial onto my DSL CD.
I copy the wvdial.conf into /etc, and dpkg -i the 2
.deb packs.
Open root terminal,run wvdial,open
x terminal, run wmppp,and I'm there.
Sorry I can't be more help with the wmppp thing.

regards,
Adraker

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 13 2004,10:53
aaahh, wmppp uses the config file for wvdial, which explains why i get a request for a file.
busy today so the dsls might have to wait but i willl try and finish today.

Posted by adraker on Aug. 13 2004,11:19
ico2-
I didn't make that too clear,my apologies...
The wvdial.conf is for wvdial.

I don't have a clue about the wmppp.app config file
because I only use it as a monitor.
I think you can probably set it up to launch ppp,
and kill ppp,but I don't know how.
When I install the deb package, it doesn't ask for or
look for a config file.
So I didn't think there was a problem.
Maybe these 2 are just a bad idea.

The wvdial requires users to have a wvdial.conf prepared,
and it seems wmppp needs a config which I don't know about.
Perhaps it's time to give it up,there might be an easier ppp monitor
to use.

Thanks for trying though!

ok, i think i did the 2 dsls, will submit after writing info files.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 13 2004,13:05
sent, resending wmpinboard (again) (corrupted)
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 13 2004,13:06
wmppp uses wvdials config file which does not need to be already there but can be setup using wvdialconf.

thanks
ico2

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 13 2004,13:08
wmpinboard seems to corrupt itself when copied to my disk, not just the version on the disk but the copy also corrupts the version in my home directory as well.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 13 2004,17:51
finally got wmpinboard.dsl to work, sending now.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 13 2004,18:44
done nethack.dsl (a really cool game), testing (playing some more), writing info file and sending.
Posted by optixz on Aug. 13 2004,20:24
ico2  I tested the wmlaptop.dsl but get the following error.
I only saw this when I ran it from a terminal.

----snip----
Cannot support ACPI (the file /proc/acpi/info don't exists)
Switching to APM..
Found 1 battery's entry
Enable autoShutdown at 1% battery state
Use a shutdown delay of 1 minutes
The real poweroff will run at 1% battery state + 1 minutes
Error reading the info file (/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_min_freq):
No such file or directory

----end snip----

Looks like its looking for a directory that don't exist.  That whole tree doesn't exist.  I'm still a noob when it comes to figuring this out so I have not taken any steps to resolve this.  Thought I'd let ppl know first.

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 13 2004,20:55
thanks. seems wmlaptop will not run on dsl, i will do another battery dock app in the next few days
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 14 2004,19:59
done netmaze.dsl a cool network maze kill people type game.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 15 2004,11:14
netmaze is having a few problems.
i need to fix a couple of things to make it work from the dsl menu properly.

Posted by ico2 on Aug. 28 2004,13:49
i have stopped making dsls for the time being while i concentrate on another project: creating a modified "server edition" of dsl, for details visit this thread: < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....341;r=1 >
Posted by ripcrd6 on Aug. 30 2004,06:26
I got your wmfrog dsl to work.  I went into emelfm and typed "wmfrog -s kmci", where kmci is the station close to me.  Go to < http://www.nws.noaa.gov/tg/siteloc.shtml >   for the Nat'l Weather Svc. Site Locator.  Usually it is the callsign for the airport near you.  Also if you launch it twice w/ 2 different callsigns you can monitor weather at 2 locations, you get 2 items in the dock.
Posted by ico2 on Aug. 30 2004,13:18

ok, i am going to do some more dsls,
is there anything people want as a dsl, please only suggest 1s that are avaliable from packages.debian.org, search it before posting.

also, seeing as the battery monitor i did as a dsl did not work, i will try to do another, also i am hopefully going to learn how to do linux stuff in c++ (can anyone suggest a tutorial).

Posted by ke4nt1 on Sep. 14 2004,16:05
Just a heads-up...

I have already received a "wmacpi" extension, which will be in the testing area shortly.
I'm awaiting an info/sources file to accompany it..

There have been several request for various apps in the forums
this week..
No shortage of requests here..  :)

Yep..
I've been heavy into a couple of thick C programming
reference books here lately..

Was just reading one at lunchtime...
( which is about over.. )

I'd like to find a good book on bash shell scripting..
Any ideas?

ok, i think i have found out how to do what i want with gtk+2.0, i am trying to instal it, i am currently downloading the stuff i need.
Posted by ico2 on Sep. 19 2004,12:31
can't seem to get gtk working.
i'm doing some themes atm, expect to see them in the repostitory soon.

if anyone wants a theme made then post path to image and the vauge sort of colours you would like.

i am currently doing that "tux drinking carton with xp-we suck more" image.
my next one will probably be one of the dsl logos that are flying around.

i am going to download a load of images and then go to my linux machine upstairs and make them into themes.

if you have any requests then post here.

Posted by ico2 on Sep. 20 2004,18:40
done a few themes and am about to do some more, check 'em out when they get in the repository!!!.

I have sent the files for a deb2dsl.dsl file. It is one of those "why didn't we think of this before?" things. Hopefully it will help someone who doesn't feel comfortable creating scripts.

The script installs to /home/dsl/ and there is a mydsl menu item to launch it!

Have fun.  :)

Chris

Posted by ico2 on Sep. 28 2004,18:14
lol, i think i will stick to using the copy of the script i copied from the forums ages ago.

thx in advance

Now all we need is your dsl remastering.dsl :)

Just pop in CD adjust to taste and run your masterpiece............

Posted by ico2 on Oct. 02 2004,09:42
definately, that would be cool, i haven't got my head around remastering yet so making a dsl to do it is a bit beyond me.
i will see if i can make it work, but no promises.

Posted by pdurys on Oct. 04 2004,07:48
And of course post it as a DSL file ;-)
