There used to be a latex.dsl in the repositories, but now I cannot find it anymore. How come? Was there errors in it? I downloaded it when it was there, so I wonder if it is a bad idea to use it or if there are other reasons why it has been removed. Would have been nice to have latex I think.

Dear Reidar,

Don't worry there was nothing wrong with the latex.dsl. It was removed, I'm afraid, as
no matter what you do people just wouldn't run the little script it needed and folk
just thought it didn't work.... The script was required as a link to one of the texmf
directories, set in the miniroot, linked to something that didn't exist (/var/lib/texmf
if I remember rightly). This might not be true in modern DSL versions but I'm afraid
I haven't looked.

I use and enjoy a variety of packages BUT not all of these are immediately compatible
with HD installed user, the 'where's the icon?' crowd, the `wrap it and stick it in opt'
crowd and  some may involve you typing in a command window.

Everything that required a script, deletions, anything `too much' in the way of a wrapper
and some commandline based packages were removed.

Your suggestion of Antiword is excellent.

Thanks a lot! I was a bit worried, but now I will try out latex, AND remember to run that little script  :)

I have dsl hd-installed myself, and I have all the 13 cds of sarge as my apt-get repository, so I have no problems there. The reason why I would like more of the .dsls is that I run dsl as a live-cd in my office, and then I need some extra packages. As I am a mathematician/researcher I use gnuplot, I am starting to learn octave, and the siag-office was a revelation for its speed when compared to openoffice, which I use on a stronger machine at home.

Hope someone decides to make an antiword.dsl as well. Or else I guess I will have to learn how to do it myself  :)

Hi Reidar,

Try the latex live first of all (if you've hopefully got enough RAM at work). The xdvi
fonts glitches a bit, but no worse than a full `apt-got' version, and I don't know if
any changes to recent DSL versions might have changed things....

all being well though, if its the old .dsl then you might have a laugh at the chosen
example files (in the /home/dsl/latex directory where you'll find the script).

Thanks for the advice! I'm looking forward to trying it out!

FYI,

antiword already exists inside a DSL extension.

Check out the siag office extension.

antiword is buried in there somewhere obscure like

/usr/lib/siag/antiword/
