Just had a bit of an idea.

It's possible to build Firefox from source without gtk2.0.

Has anyone had any success doing this in DSL? It would make a much lighter .dsl than the current one. And for people who don't use other gtk2.0 apps, it  would be even lighter than ke4nt1's factored firefox.

More random thoughts from tthe insanity that is J.P.'s Mind™.

While there was a "586" version of 0.8 firefox that used gtk1.2,
( It is the firefox 0.8 that is downloadable from DSL )

I haven't seen any builds for 0.9.3 or 1.10.1 (1.0PR) that have any
586 capability..

Well, I have been using/testing it and seems OK. I have forwarded them to Kent for a second review. I have built both tar.gz and uci versions for firefox and java plugin. Should be RSN.

Abso-freakin-lutely awesome.

This will be a lot easier on low-ram systems!

The new versions of Firefox 0.9 and Java 1.5.0 are posted in the repository.

Thanks to Robert for sorting thru all my messes , and making 586 versions
of firefox 0.9 and java 1.5.0 that work as both .uci' and .tar.gz's
Really nice work....

So, Firefox 0.9 and Java1.5.0 for ALL users of DSL ..  enjoy..

This does REALLY cut down on the ram requirements ,
compared to the FAT Firefox 1.0PR ..

firefox.tar.gz > in the "net" section
firefox.uci > in the "uci" section
java1_5_0.tar.gz in the "system" section
java1_5_0 .uci in the "uci" section
