Hi, I installed the .dsl using emelfm. The icon appears but gimp does not start after clicking the icon.

What's the matter?

Do I have to install other .dsl files like gnutils.dsl or gtk2.dsl?

Does the menu option run it OK?
( perhaps only the icon is challenged..)

open a shell, and type..
"start_gimp2.0" and see what happens in the shell
( any error messages.. )

Does the gimp2.0.dsl.md5.txt match your md5summed gimp2.0.dsl file ?

Do you have any other desktop icons giving you troubles ?
( xpaint , vnc, etc... )

The menu entry does not work.too.

I ll try the shell command.

It's rc 0.8.0 without any gnu utils or gtk-utils or things like that.

The other icons work very well.

How can I do a checksum?
I think I have to download the small txt file but what then?

Open a shell
Go into the directory that contains your downloaded gimp2.0.dsl.
Type " md5sum gimp2.0.dsl "
you will get a long string of letters/numbers
Match this string to the similar string in the downloaded .md5.txt file.
( I use scite to open the text file and look inside )
They should match exactly..

There are many ways to do this...
This explanation helps demonstrate what is being compared..

/Good to know how to compare files when the checksum is given.txt

/I presume the few amount of RAM could be the problem.
It s only 48MB and no swap space because i am not able to start cfdisk anymore (something like "end of partition 5 is out of physical range of drive", really strange).txt :-)

Very true, the gimp is a hungry extension..

Does the older gimp 1.2 run OK.
It's very useful, and only requires gtk1.2

the error message is sth. like this:

(gimp-2.0:669): Warning No builtin or dinamically loaded modules were found. Pango will not work correctly.

Glib-GObject-Critical ; file gobject.c: line 1561 (g_object_ref): assertion G_IS_OBJECT failed

critical ; file pango-engine.c: line 68 (pango engine shape) assertion P is font failed

gimp2 fatal error file shape.c line 75 glyphs->num_glyphs > 0

Ähh, gtk??

I haven't installed any gtk?!

If you downloaded the gimp2.0.dsl from the apps section of the repository,
it has the gtk2 built into the extension. So no need to install gtk2.

Did your md5sum match the .md5.txt posted with the download?

The gtk2.dsl part is what makes it fat.
It's 21MB's compressed , so it's got to be huge when installed and executed ..
I see about 15MB's disappear from my ram count when I start it from the desktop.

I still go with your available ram issue.
Even with 96 MB's on my laptop, it still hits close to the limit
before I start to see "out of memory" errors .. ( from live CD )
Meaning, I can only run a few of the fat apps before I see errors occur ..

Did the gimp-1.2.dsl work any better for you?
It's leaner than the 2.0 , but perhaps still not lean enough.
With only 48MB ram, your severly handicapped in what you can ADD to DSL.
The CD/Distro itself will probably run fine ..
I'd stay away from the gtk2 or fat apps ..   Stick to the small ones ..

I'm back again

I have not done the md5 yet but I tried to use gimp 1.2.

It works perfectly! :) Greets C
