i'm a total noob to linux and i wanted to make the switch after so many years of windows. i've had a rough time getting started and i hope to eventually be a linux user full time. well i have a hd install on a crappy comp of mine. It's a pentium 2 with a 8 gb hd and 30 mb of ram. so yea, it's pretty crappy. i have installed a few myDSL extensions but only a few will load. xchat and xmahjong work fine but gaim, lxdoom, and freecraft won't. i realize that some things probably won't run due to my computer but i'd like for someone to clarify or help me fix it. thanks in advance.

you really ought to kick the ram up to at least 64 mb, but if you cant, make some swap space.

either a swap partition or a DOS swapfile on your fat32 disk

Either do a full hard disk install + swap paritition

or a frugal / poorman's install + swap partition.

Either way your expandibility is pretty limited unless you either upgrade your total RAM or create a swap partition on your hard drive or both.
