The quake2 is only the engine.
The "maps" are copyrighted, and need to be supplied by you.

You can grab the shareware version, or if you have the CD,
either M$ or Linux, you can pull the pak*.pak files from the baseq2 dir.

Once you have placed the *.pak files in your
/home/dsl/.quake2/baseq2 directory
the game will run..  keep it to 640x480 window unless you have
LOTS of HP under the hood..

As for the gaim extension , try loading the gnu-utils.dsl first,
as it has lots of the x window libraries in it.

I'm new to DSL but not to Linux. But this distro has blown me away. Great for low powered and hi powered machines. Now about Gaim. I download it and an icon apears but it does not connect. I did the same with Firefox 10. Firefox worked when I used the older version. But I don't see one for Gaim. Will installing gnu-utils.dsl first make Gaim work? By the way Iwant to do a HD install.

Thanks.

I haven't tried the Q2 engine yet, but because of the KDrive X Server, is only software rendering available?  ie. would an upgrade to the full xfree86 server be required to run accelerated 3d?
Tried searching through yesterday to find out exactly how to install xfree86, but didn't really find an answer in the end (yesterday tried installing with synaptic via broadband whilst running live [512MB RAM], but it seemed to stop responding after a while, and couldn't find out how to start the new server to see if it had actually installed...)

Would be good to get accelerated 3D ActionQ2 running! :p

Of course,
Once you get the xfree server, and the accelerated graphics driver operational...
( e.g. NVidia ) ..

Why stop with Q2 ?

Q3, Descent, TuxRacer, Chromium, SOF .... :)

You may want to try just downloading Gaim again. Gaim works just fine on my computer (I'm using 0.9.0.1 with an hd-install). The way I get mine to work is by getting into the MyDSL repository through the DSL site (using dillo) and saving the gaim.dsl in /home  . Then I use Emelfm to load the .dsl using the myDSL button.

Enjoy DSL
