if I launch the program from the icon it quits after a load a divx cd.
I I start the application via the menu entry everything works fine.
Poorman install booted via 0.8.0 floppy.
I have XFree86.dsl and nvidia.dsl running.
P2 300, 196MB ram, nvidia geforce 400 mx.

The menu item and icon commands are identical, so there must be something weird happening that may not relate specifically to mplayer. It may be the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable not being passed properly for some reason.

What happens when you launch /opt/mplayer/gmplayer from a terminal? Do you see any weird messages in the term? If you get no problems, here's another test:
Close xtdesk
Start xtdesk from a terminal
Launch mplayer from the desktop icon and see if you get any errors in the terminal when loading a divx file.

I may need to add a PATH to the wrappers in /opt/mplayer, but it doesn't seem like that should make a difference if it works fine from the menu.
