autoconf, libraries and pain

Some of that standard tools for downloading, configuring and compiling packages don't seem to be available.

Specifically:
cvs
autoconf
m4
automake

Is the standard proceedure to boot a knoppix system, or to install DSL to a hard disk and install these utilities in their standard places?
